Sail On, Jaime Escalante

The former math teacher at Garfield High in East L.A. lost his battle with cancer today. He inspired the Movie Stand and Deliver. He was an inspiration to so many...and he believed in his kids. I was always drawn to the students who everyone had given up on, I could almost always find something good in them. I thank Jaime for that. The hard part was getting other teachers to believe me and see past their preconceived notions and the labels that were slapped on kids.
Sail on, Jaime.....you made an incredible difference in this world.
