Hoping someone can assist...On the Wed night Buffett Buffet, Kirsten played a live version of When the Coast is Clear...I didn't catch where this was recorded from and the year. I know I've heard the version before (Amy's playing a great sax), but can't remember where it's from. HELP!! Thanks much!

Just go to the Song and Lyrics Database, look for the song and at the end it will tell you all the times it was performed live. Then you can get it off of Jokelben most of the time.

"I still come down to talk to me, when the Coast is clear," one of my favorite lines, and a deep thinker for me. When the coast is clear later in the fall, I always am reminded of that song. I think Mac and Jimmy wrote it. It is a winner for sure.

Yeah, my wife's family has a place in the Thousand Islands (Northern NY) on Murray Isle. When September hits and activity dies down on the St. Lawrence River, I always sing that song in my mind. One of the most peaceful places and times for me!

I'm sure anyone who lives in an area near water that attracks a lot of visitors can relate to this song. I know it's true in my little beach town on the south shore of Boston and it certainly is true on Cape Cod and the Islands. Heaven only knows what it must be like for all those folks in the south who get all the spring breakers this time of year. It's a really great song.

I come down to talk to me, is a phrase for some reason that always stuck with me. In business today when things don't seem quite right, that line will pop in my head, that maybe I should sit down and talk to me. The best place to do that is on a quite beach in the fall when the circus has left town. Cool thoughts.

We hardly get to have these chats,
that in itself's a crime...

Gotta love Jimmy's words about it too (from the database and the Parrothead Handbook from 4Bs)

Jimmy’s Notes:
I grew up on the Alabama Gulf Coast, and it has been a source of a lot of my music. I always like to go home after school is back in session and the crowds have left the beaches. The amusement parks are closed, and pine straw covers the artificial turf of the miniature golf course. The tidal pools are once again the domain of the shorebirds, and the water changes to its darker green, signaling the approach of winter. This is the first song Mac McAnally and I wrote together, and I think it paints the image the way I like to see it. Painting with words can be as much fun as painting with oils.

And included on the vinyl album are the words printed on the album sleeve:
For Emery Clark, who paints it better than I can say it

According to the Dogstar radio site, the version was from "Floridays"....in future, use this site for finding any songs played, setlists or what's on other channels....enjoy :D

I'm not saying you are incorrect, but sometimes a LIVE version of a song is played and the database will still take you to the album version of the song on dogstarradio.com.

Since I did not hear it, I'm not sure...Amy Lee didn't play sax for the Coral Reefers in 1986. The Floridays version of When The Coast is Clear has strings on it and NO sax.

I live in coastal Maine. This song? Yeah, pretty much. That's all. (See signature of my dog on a slow day at the beach...)

After listening to several versions of When The Coast Is Clear, the one from Ft. Lauderdale in February 2002 is the one that sounds like a live one I've heard on RM. If not, it sure is a great version.

02-16-2002: National Car Rental Center - Ft Lauderdale, FL

This one has Amy Lee on sax, Mac McAnally on keyboards, Nadirah sings those lines "it's the only place I know" after Amy's solo. Mac sings a bit of background vocals. Jimmy actually flubs up the lyrics and sings "They're closing down the tourists traps"...twice

Leon Civic Center on Valentine's Day 2002 is very similar...heck all the versions from 2001 are all so similar and Jimmy seems to mess up that first line on all the versions. [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

For me the song is symbolic....when life slows down (sometimes you have to slow yourself down) - that's when you can find yourself...
