One of my favorite TV shows (don't ask me why) is Top Gear on BBC America. It's a motor show but not your typical one. Anyway they are constantly featuring cars like this Ferrari and a zillion others that I have never heard of. All of them are ridiculously fast and even more ridiculouly expensive - literally hundreds of thousands of dollars. And while it is fun to watch the hosts drive them around tracks and closed off roads to show what they can do, I always think, yeah that's great, but where could the average person do that? Maybe you could get away with it for a while driving on I-80 in Nevada, Wyoming or Montana, but there is no place around Boston where I could even get the car out of 2nd gear. However I must admit it is fun to dream. And someday before I die I am going to own a purple Corvette!

There are car clubs and race tracks all over the country. When you have enough money for that car (Ferrari maintenance is easily 8K a year), you have enough money to trailer it to whatever track you want to take it to. You don't drive it to the dentist's office in rush hour.

Well shucks, what the point of having one if you can't show it off to the Jones? Just kidding. I get your point.

I can think of a number of places that one could get these cars up to speed and not have to be on a race track. Granted, if a highway patrolman happened by the ticket would be really BAD but the odds of anyone being there are slim to none. Highway 6 west of Delta Utah, or Nevada's Highway 318 or US 93 from Pioche through central Nevada, slowing down for Ely, McGill and the zipping up the road to Wells. Utah SR 30 used to be really good for flying but the last couple of times there have been a number of semis on it and that plays havoc with making good time.
Sadly, many of the great roads for speedy travel have not been maintained or they now have too much traffic.
