Too funny, my first car was a Corvair also, it was my Dad's, I wrecked it, so he gave it to me. I drove it around for the longest time without the front hood. My buddy had a paper route so we would fill the front up with papers, he would sit up there on top of the pile tossing papers left and right, worked pretty good!

Only problem for me was, as a teen I had nowhere to put my 12 inch woofers.
I had a silver 84 Fiero.......loved it. Only one headlight stayed open all the time. Kinda wish I still had that car.

Me too, especially one with the "X" package.

Frankly, I liked the looks of both the Gremlin and the Pacer. They were refreshingly different from the other cars of the day, in much the same way the PT Cruiser and the Chevy HHR are now. However, there is such a thing as *TOO* different; I think the Aztek was positively butt-ugly, the Scion xB was so boxy it looked like they never took it out of the shipping crate ... and as for those pickup trucks with the dual rear wheels and the outsized fenders to cover them, they look more like someone stuck them on as an afterthought rather than actually sat down and designed them.

IMO AMC made some of the ugliest cars ever. Gremlin, Pacer, Hornet, Matador. I once
dated a girl that had a Pacer with a CB antenna in the middle of the roof. It looked like
a giant space helmet. "No, no honey. I'll drive. We'll take MY car. NO! Please, I insist."
I had a Javelin that looked good, but mechanically was crap. The front end squeaked so
bad I was constantly spraying it with silicon to quiet the noise. Plus it only got 13 mpg
on the highway and was only 305 c.i.d.! :pirate:

My best friend thought she was hot snot when she bought one (bright red). Within months, she had one headlight permanently open and one permanently closed. I swear, almost daily as she was driving the highway to work, something would fall off that "hot" car. It wasn't long before she was back to envying my decade old ultra-reliable Chevy Nova. lol

My first car was one of those. It would stop for no reason while you were driving on the expressway or anywhere else for that matter. It wouldn't restart for at least a half hour after one of these incidents. Drove me crazy. But it was cute. It had Levi seats with Levi pockets on the doors.

Truth be told, we had trouble squeeling the tires on this pooch. We did ride it pretty hard when given the opportunity however. Ah those were the days.....

I had a 77 Mustang II Hatchback. It had the big V8 and then I added headers, a shift kit and I could smoke the tires from a standing start. I also managed to get about 10 miles to the gallon but hey, it was a quick car off the line. The biggest problem was with the shift kit it was very good at the top end.
