Just in case you forgot how important high school football is in Texas, the residents of Allen will soon have a $59.6 million stadium that will leave no doubt.
Next month in the booming north Dallas suburb, ground will be broken on a state-of-the-art, 18,000-seat facility that will feature two decks, a video scoreboard, four concession stands and 12 restrooms. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012.

Did you bother to read the article?
Carroll points out the money being used for the stadium and the performing arts center could not be used for anything else.
"In Texas, funding is completely separate between capital projects and general (education) fund," he said. "If we don't build the stadium, none of that money could go to teachers or classrooms."

Well obviously I didn't and as I look back at your original post I don't remember seeing the link when I glanced at it the first time. I guess I'll have to be more careful in the future and not post something on the fly.

So I guess my problem is with the politicians that put the money into the capital project fund instead of the education fund.

Don't worry about it, you aren't the first one to do that and you won't be the last.

Maybe your problem should be with the voters who voted to fund the project?

Them too, if it was some sort of millage election that provided the funds. They've got every right to spend their money however they want, as I do to roll my eyes and think their priorities are screwed up. Looks like we both got what we wanted.
I lived in Allen for several years. This is not a big surprise. Those people love their football. If you want to eat out and not wait to be seated, go on a home football night. The restuarants are ghostowns.
Each year before the season starts there is a parade. The 600+ member marching band marches through local stores and plays songs. It's quite the spectacle.

Remember this is Texas. High School Football is as high on the list of priorities as anything you could think of.
They love High School Football and if you had ever been to a game there you would figure that out in a heart beat. I know I attended one.

There are actually situations in Texas where parents intentionally hold their child back in elementary school a year so that they'll be bigger in high school for football. Now, that's some serious planning.

I've never even seen Friday Night Lights but I know it a huge deal down there. And I'm sure a lot of their fans would think I'm crazy for attending a Buffett concert. It just seems way over the top for me.
I went to one game on a visit there. Mostly to see Steven play in the marching band. I gotta tell you the small stadium that his School had would put to shame most of the Stadiums in Washington.

I think Sly Stone said it best when he sang. "Different strokes for different folks"

No its easier to blame the big bad Gobment for everything these days, especially when your middle aged well off and white, you know the people are getting screwed over in everything they do. I mean they freed the world from the Nazi's.....oh wait that was their parents, but at least they grew up with friends from all walks of life.......oh wait that's their kids.
