Do you hear that, Jimmy Buffett?
I'll be sure to visit the Luna Blue!
If you are going to visit , make sure it is on a night when Jimmy is in Concert somewhere. We always play the concert live on Radio Margaritaville and gather ther Parrot Heads of Playa together to party (but not the concert in France..we're boycotting that sucker :D ).

One of my friends is the Chef at Wicky's Playa Del Carmen... Need to get down and see him and back to the Tulum Beaches. Would be there ASAP if Jimmy would play there..

Of course everybody has different preferences for where they want to travel to...and those differences make the world spin. But IOHO saying you have been to Mexico once and found no need to return is like saying you have seen all of the US if you just go to Kansas, or been to all of Europe if you’ve only visited London.

Mexico is a huge country, and like the US has an amazingly varied land mass stretching from the Caribbean to the Pacific and includes mountains, seashores, deserts, farmland, primitive undeveloped vistas and possibly the world's largest city. Its people are likewise varied. You will find descendants of Spanish, English, Irish, French, Italian and American immigrants mixing with a rainbow of indigenous native peoples.

Mexico has a rich cultural heritage dating back to civilizations that existed long before the US was even discovered. It has unique music, art, religions, architecture and social structures. Its people are warm and inviting, hardworking and good hearted.

Best of all for Parrott Heads like us, we have found the real Margaritaville. We start our day swimming in the Caribbean Sea. On days off we go to a small white sand beach where a funky palm thatched beach bar serves up cold beer and strong boat drinks. We walk to work and say hello to people who call back in English, Spanish, Italian, and Mayan.

We have found Mexico to be beautiful, occasionally frustrating, and sometimes difficult to understand, but always interesting. We suggest you give it another try.

BTW, over a hundred people have joined the Face Book Boycott of Jimmy until he plays a concert down here on the Riviera Maya. Bubba...are you listening? :D

Been to Mexico three times and flew back with your wonderful free gift of montezuma's revenge TWICE. Makes for a really fun plane ride! Doubt my but will ever set foot in Mexico again!!!
I want to go back down and lie beside the sea there.
With a tin cup for a chalice
Fill it up with good red wine...or Rose, as Jimmy said!!!

Sorry about your experience....but that can happen anywhere. I haven't gotten sick on any of our trips to Mexico (4 so far) but have gotten violently ill in Vancouver, New Hampshire and Ohio  But I don't blame the places. Often just drinking "different" water (not bad water...just different) will set off your system. Also eating differently than you do when you are at home can make your stomach rebel.

When I used to show cats, I always took water from home with me. (nothing worse than a persian cat with the runs) :P

I love Playa and Tulum and wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

I Love Your Cat Photos...I am a cat person also!!
BUT...I would have to say the odds of picking up a bacteria in the drinking water are MUCH higher in Mexico than Ohio!!
My wife never picked it up either, but she knows what I went through and will also never go back.

Well... there are people whose sense of exploration is satisfied by a Buffett concert and a cruise and there are those who like life a little more on the adventuresome side.

Tony got food poisoning at a KFC in Orlando, and Cheri got it Hawaii. It sometimes happens when you travel. Sometimes its bacteria, sometimes it's rich food and too much alcohol, sometimes it's nerves. If you write off Mexico because you got sick here...you're probably making the best choice for yourself. Better stick with the concert stateside...so much safer.

For those of you who actually think the stuff Jimmy sings about is worth doing...come on down. We know a beach...

Join us at Boycott Buffett on facebook. Get Jimmy to the beautiful Caribbean Coast of Mexico for a concert in the real Margaritaville!

The kitties and I thank you. I think they're pretty special.

You'd be surprised about Ohio. Something about the water there really doesn't agree with me. I do OK in Cleveland...but I've gotten sick more than once in the Columbus area.

Ok, I see somebody from STL has a friend who's a chef at Wickys, another from MO says NO to Playa. I'm from MO and have been going to Playa for 25 yrs several times a year and have NEVER gotten sick on anything! The point is Mexico tourism needs Jimmy's help. We want and need him in MX and show him how the pros know how to have a good time and it starts and ends at The Luna Blue Tiki Bar and that's all I have to say about that- OH- if you have tendencies of being sick, stay home.

LOL!!! Ya Know BigR we have always figured you can be satisfied just listening to Jimmy sing about Margaritaville...or you can go looking for it. We have looked in Hawaii, Jamaica, Key West, New Orleans, The British Virgin Islands, The American Virgin Islands, up and down the Baja and all over Mexico. We have found two places we think qualify as really being the Margaritaville Jimmy sings about. First was a little thatched roof shack on the edge of the Bahia Conception in the Baja's Sea of Cortez. Just south of the pueblo of Mulege, Roy's place was a restaurant and bar where he served whatever seafood he caught fishing or diving that day along with fresh squeezed lime margaritas. As the sun went down he would fire up the gas generator and plug in the twinkle lights and the stereo (he liked classical music). When the gas ran out his guests dined by starlight and the music of the waves. The other contender for Margaritaville is a funky beach bar called "El Paraiso" on the beach in Tulum, Mexico. Nestled under a grove of Coconut palm trees it serves burgers and boat drinks on tables stuck in pure white powder sand. You munch and sip as you watch lovely girls splash in the crystal blue surf of the Caribbean without regard to standard requirements of bathing suits. It's our regular place on our days off.

Of course it's hard to compare these out of the way, end of the road Mexican places with the wonders of Floridas condo capital of Destin, but it's all we have down here south of the border. `

Going to spend my money in Key West in June, Tampa this weekend, Frisco, Vegas in the fall even if he doesn’t go and it looks like he is. The people of Vegas need my dollars more than the Mexicans. Yes I went there once and that was enough. I will not buy Mexican produce I pass that crap up. Look, you can paint a rosy picture. The fact is Mexico is in the middle of a civil war. Even the resort towns. I am just not interested. Sorry.

Everyone has their own feelings and opinions, but let's keep it pleasant, please. :)

<------ loved my 8 day trip in February to Playa Del Carmen. And no, we didn't get sick, if you all were wondering.

It is so hard to chill out in the face of ignorance on the level expressed here. Being a parrotthead must mean you like to drink tequila and buy Jimmy's latest official t-shirt, but not have sense of adventure or understanding of the world, We will not be posting on this board again. We will leave the hatred of false parrotheads to their safe little concerts stateside. If this is what Jimmy inspires...you can keep him.

Don't care for tequila much, and haven't bought a t-shirt in more than 6 years. :)
