Luna Blue wrote:It is so hard to chill out in the face of ignorance on the level expressed here. Being a parrotthead must mean you like to drink tequila and buy Jimmy's latest official t-shirt, but not have sense of adventure or understanding of the world, We will not be posting on this board again. We will leave the hatred of false parrotheads to their safe little concerts stateside. If this is what Jimmy inspires...you can keep him.
And since you two are "true" parrotheads, you have the right to tell everyone else that they are false parrotheads, simply because we don't live the lifestyle you do?

Boy, this is going to be fun..........

This thread was not started because you wanted to explain to the rest of the world that you were a true parrothead, and that you have spent countless....well, years I'm guessing, because you gave quite a list of all of the places you went to throughout the Caribbean looking for the exact spot that you consider to be the perfect "Margaritaville" that Jimmy sang about. (For the record as a lowly false parrothead, I am naive enough to simply take Jimmy at his word that "Margaritaville is simply a state of mind, and it is wherever you want it to be.) No, the whole reason you started this thread was to voice your displeasure that you, a true parrothead, was being deprived of seeing Jimmy Buffett in your neck of the woods. (A claim that, four posts in, was refuted by yet another false parrothead .) So this begs the question then:

What is more important to being a true parrothead: finding the (subjectively chosen) perfect margaritaville, or being able to see Jimmy Buffett in concert?

If you have found the perfect margaritaville, as you claim, and are living the lifestyle that sets the bar by which all other lifestyles should be measured (and all, apparently, found lacking, by your opinion), then you are basically claiming to have reached the nirvana of parrothead-ness, at which point the presence of the one who sent you on this path (namely, Mr. Buffett himself) should no longer be necessary. But apparently, who have not reached that point because you still have an emptiness that needs to be filled which gives us an answer to the question:

Finding the perfect margaritaville does not complete one's true parrothead-ness. Ergo, the ability to see Jimmy Buffett in concert must be maintained. And as you have so perfectly pointed out by starting this thread, the ability to see Jimmy Buffett AND live in Mexico are almost completely at odds with one another.

So I will stay here with the rest of my false parrotheads and attend my safe little concerts, because last time I checked, Jimmy (you know, the original true parrothead) plays a lot more concerts here than he does there. And just because a half dozen people or so (if even that many) posted about not wanting to go to Mexico, that doesn't mean that they don't have a sense of adventure. Their idea of adventure may simply be something different, something you would find uninteresting. Then again, maybe they don't have a sense of adventure after all. I don't know. I do know that blanket statements like "not have sense of adventure or understanding of the world"
about people you don't know personally don't do anything to foster a dialogue. If traveling the Caribbean and searching for (and ultimately) finding your perfect margaritaville has given you an understanding of the world, congratulations. Now perhaps you can begin to work on an understanding of your fellow human beings.

(And for the record, I'm pretty sure you started this thread with tongue planted firmly in cheek and tried to use humor to draw attention to a somewhat serious topic, and I'm just as sure some people who read and responded didn't see it that way, or didn't see the humor in it. Happens to me all the time. I also understand you can't control what other people say, but only how you respond to that, and sometimes that's harder than others. once again, I know from personal experience. But once you start claiming to be better than anyone else simply because of the way you lived your life...well, all I can say to that is I'm sorry you feel the need to base your own identity and self worth by judging it against others.

Wow......popcornjack....that was really well said. I think you
hit the nail on the head. [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]

Just because not everyone feels the need or urge to
go to Mexico does not mean that we are full of
hatred for those that do.

Luna Blue....if seeing Jimmy is that important to you, just
hop on a plane and go see him somewhere. A lot of us live
where he does not play....it is not the end of the world.

France before Mexico? probably cause you rarely hear the phrases....tourist beaten to death in Paris...or drug war rages on Belgium border.....or French police thought to be behind several murders and robberies near French resorts.....

I think Jimmy should stay well clear of the Mexico. At least I will be.

We have found Mexico to be beautiful, occasionally frustrating, and sometimes difficult to understand, but always interesting. We suggest you give it another try.

BTW, over a hundred people have joined the Face Book Boycott of Jimmy until he plays a concert down here on the Riviera Maya. Bubba...are you listening? :D

Hi Luna - First let me welcome you to Buffettnews - as you can see a place of varied opinions and viewpoints. I think though some of your statements have come off as blanket statements and have offended some people. I can see you own a hotel and I'm sure are suffering the ill effects of the economic down turn in the US and this is an attempt to generate some interest for your tourist area. However, even saying "we have found the REAL margaritaville" can rub some people the wrong way. Afterall Margaritaville IS very personal for some people. For some it is on a sailboat just off of an island in the Bahamas....others it might mean sipping a beer at Myrtle Beach, for some its the Gulf coast, and for others it might mean sitting on the front porch of their cottage on a lake in Michigan and for others....its a state of mind...it's that one time each year they go to a show and are just let go... .....Different strokes for different folks.....I personally have been to Coz and it wasn't quite for me...I've also been to Nassau and didn't like it either....However I found my personal Margaritaville in a little island in the Exumas while sailing that chain of islands. To call folks "false parrotheads" - well that's just unfair....I am glad that you all have chased your dream and found it....just don't judge others....you don't know what their dreams are....

Do you even realize just how childish that sounds? :-?

That being said, we used to go to Playa Del Carmen every year. Enjoyed the hell out of it...until it got so dang touristy, it just wasn't fun to me anymore, so I just no longer have that desire to go. But that doesn't mean that I *hate* Mexico or that I don't think it's beautiful. I've been to other parts of MX too, Cozumel, Mazatlan, Guadalajara, etc...as well as the border towns (as a matter of fact, I'm flying to Harlingen this weekend, with the sole purpose of crossing the border and doing a little tequila shopping) Just because someone may not share the same passion for it as y'all obviously do, doesn't make them a 'false parrothead' (whatever the hell that means). As far as a sense of adventure... I'm pretty sure there is no lack of that in my life either.
