That being said, we used to go to Playa Del Carmen every year. Enjoyed the hell out of it...until it got so dang touristy, it just wasn't fun to me anymore, so I just no longer have that desire to go. But that doesn't mean that I *hate* Mexico or that I don't think it's beautiful. I've been to other parts of MX too, Cozumel, Mazatlan, Guadalajara, etc...as well as the border towns (as a matter of fact, I'm flying to Harlingen this weekend, with the sole purpose of crossing the border and doing a little tequila shopping) Just because someone may not share the same passion for it as y'all obviously do, doesn't make them a 'false parrothead' (whatever the hell that means). As far as a sense of adventure... I'm pretty sure there is no lack of that in my life either.

All of this talk of Mexico reminded me of a song...so humor me  "Anchors aweigh Captian Stubing"

Love, exciting and new
Come Aboard. We're expecting you.
Love, life's sweetest reward.
Let it flow, it floats back to you.

Love Boat soon will be making another run
The Love Boat promises something for everyone
Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance.

Love won't hurt anymore
It's an open smile on a friendly shore.
Yes LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE! It's LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE! (hey-ah!)

Love Boat soon will be making another run

Love won't hurt anymore
It's an open smile on a friendly shore.
It's LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE! It's LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE! It's

If you can't get down to the warmer climates, and are cruising around the I-95/I-395 area in Connecticut, stop in at Foxwoods, and find a little place called The Scorpion Bar. They have some limited, but pretty good south of the border type cuisine (for a place that's way north of the border), a really cool design of the place, and a wide variety of tequila to get you into trouble. Oh..and they are having an all day party on Cinco De Mayo. A pretty cool place.

Best of all for Parrott Heads like us, we have found the real Margaritaville. We start our day swimming in the Caribbean Sea. On days off we go to a small white sand beach where a funky palm thatched beach bar serves up cold beer and strong boat drinks. We walk to work and say hello to people who call back in English, Spanish, Italian, and Mayan.

We have found Mexico to be beautiful, occasionally frustrating, and sometimes difficult to understand, but always interesting. We suggest you give it another try.

BTW, over a hundred people have joined the Face Book Boycott of Jimmy until he plays a concert down here on the Riviera Maya. Bubba...are you listening? :D

Hi Luna - First let me welcome you to Buffettnews - as you can see a place of varied opinions and viewpoints. I think though some of your statements have come off as blanket statements and have offended some people. I can see you own a hotel and I'm sure are suffering the ill effects of the economic down turn in the US and this is an attempt to generate some interest for your tourist area. However, even saying "we have found the REAL margaritaville" can rub some people the wrong way. Afterall Margaritaville IS very personal for some people. For some it is on a sailboat just off of an island in the Bahamas....others it might mean sipping a beer at Myrtle Beach, for some its the Gulf coast, and for others it might mean sitting on the front porch of their cottage on a lake in Michigan and for others....its a state of mind...it's that one time each year they go to a show and are just let go... .....Different strokes for different folks.....I personally have been to Coz and it wasn't quite for me...I've also been to Nassau and didn't like it either....However I found my personal Margaritaville in a little island in the Exumas while sailing that chain of islands. To call folks "false parrotheads" - well that's just unfair....I am glad that you all have chased your dream and found it....just don't judge others....you don't know what their dreams are....
OH you are so right!!!!!!!
As many places as I've been, MY Margaritaville is actually out on my patio--on a sunday afternoon after the yardwork is done--I'm tired--my husband is sitting with me-- the kids stop by--and we are sipping on a cold drink.
All I can think, is that I am the luckiest girl in the whole world. That is MY Margaritaville. :D

Just returned from Isla Cozumel with a travelling party of 8 .... had a blast and did our best to support the local economy. [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

We are from the West Coast of Canada and have a large number of American family. Almost everyone said to us, "you are heading down to Mexico? It's dangerous isn't it?" .... my reply was, "if there is a mass shooting on the east coast of the states or because I can't walk in east LA at midnight, I shouldn't come down and visit or see a Mariners game in Seattle? "

It is a big country and yes, there are 'hot' spots I wouldn't go to, like in any country...........

...and if JB decides to play the Island or Playa de Carmen then we are in! ...... don't know about the boycot tho' ... need my daily dose of Margaritaville Radio and a thought or 2 of a 'loaded' Landshark.
