We are boycotting Jimmy Buffett...

…but not really. We love Jimmy. His music and books helped to inspire us to run away to the tropics and end up here in Mexico by the Caribbean Sea. But things have taken a turn for the worst down here. Bad press about drug wars (which are thousands of miles away from here) and the swine flu (which never really hit this side of Mexico) has caused lots of people to avoid coming here. As a result a lot of good people have lost jobs and businesses. Times are tough. Then we had an idea….
What if Jimmy came here? If Jimmy came down to Mexico, played in his own cafes, hung out on the beach for a day or two and told people it was beautiful and safe here, it might change some people’s minds about Mexico. After all, Jimmy has a strong Mexican/Caribbean connection with cafes and stores in Cancun and Cozumel. He even has a Margaritaville Mexico website. Truthfully he makes some big bucks here in Mexico. We figure he owes a little back to this paradise south of the border.
So to shine a spotlight on the Riviera Maya, Mexico’s Caribbean coast, we have, with tongue in cheek, started a Facebook boycott of Jimmy Buffett. No Jimmy until he helps out our little part of Mexico. And we’re not asking for a freebie here. He can do a concert in Cancun or Cozumel or our lovely home town of Playa del Carmen. People will pay the big pesos for his concerts just like they do everywhere else. And it would do a fantastic amount of good here.
So come to our Facebook page and join “Boycott Jimmy Buffett Until He Gets His Butt Down to Playa Del Carmen:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=1 ... 4338827642.
Who knows? Stranger things have happened.
France?! France before Mexico?! Are you kiddin’ us, Jimmy??

If he did (and we would be surprised since we are huge Buffett fans and heard nothing about it) it still don't count! Flying in for a unadvertised gig for an hour isn't what we are hoping for. We want Jimmy to to a big splash for this part of Mexico. Afterall if we are good enough for his business outlets we should be good enought to have a major concert. C'mon JB. We got your Margaritaville right here!

If you are lucky enough to lure him to town...maybe he can bring his Green Tomato. I loved reading his OBX Green Tomato diary.

I don't consider that 'playing'. He 'performed'. Or 'filmed'. And in Cincinnati, I will 'spank' you. You 'penguin' you.

And surfpirate, I may just give YOU the KY Jelly necklace this year ! Wait for it...............

Thanks BigR. Things are slow still this year. A lot of people are frightened of Mexico because of the TV news hyping of violence in central Mexico along the border with the US. Of course that's a several thousand miles away from here. As we always tell people...would you not go to Key West because there is crime in New York? Same thing here. Oh well...regardless of how many tourists do or don't come, it's still the best version of Margaritaville we have ever seen. Today we took the day off and spent it with friends under a palapa a few feet from the Caribbean Sea, sipping cervezas and margaritas. We had Jimmy on the ipod/speakers, and every once in a while we would shout out "Bubbba...get your butt down here." Remember..boycott Jimmy (at least the Paris concert) until he plays a concert in Mexico!

My son & his wife will be working in Playa from May 31 to June 24 and August 18 to November 9: I'm hoping to get there for a visit.
Do you hear that, Jimmy Buffett?
I'll be sure to visit the Luna Blue!
