Pretty impressive game by Montreal last night........ :o

Quick question: As I sat there watching the game on TV I realized that, despite being a hockey fan for a long time, I never understood the Montreal nickname of the "Habs".....

Can a Habs fan spell explain that for me? Thanks...... :pirate:

As predicted earlier Habs win. Now we have a series. I'm interested to see what the Flyers will do on Sat. after Laviolette rips them a new A-Hole for the next two days. The good thing is that they flyers knew this was going to happen if they continued to play the way they did in game 2 and as GI Joe used to say knowing is half the battle. See ya on Saturday!

It short for Habitant. As I've heard it, back in the early days of hockey, Montreal had 2 teams, the Maroons and the Canadiens. The Canadiens were"the people's team" and Habitant is French for " of the land". Somehow it became their nickname. I've also heard that the H within the C on their crest is for Habitant, but I believe its for hockey.

BTW, if you go back and look at my post from before the game, I called it on the nose. For 2 periods, the Flyers couldn;t match their speed or intensity, and that first goal opened the flood gates. At first when they stopped skating in the third, I was afraid they were gonna "pull a Bruins", but in fact it was actually smart. If the Habs had continued to skate circles around Philly, I think the cheap stuff would have started. But, to stop skating, and go into defensive mode, it made Philly play hockey, and go for the comeback. The biggest difference is Montreal plays that D game much better than the Bruins did.

It'll be interesting to see how Leighton rebounds. Who is the Flyer back up with Emery & Boucher hurt?
I thought the refs did a decent job, they let them play, and there were lots of missed calls on both sides. They also didn't give Hartnell & Hammerlik instigator penalties for their scrap late in the third, which could have resulted in suspensions. As long as the refs call an even game, I don't mind whether they call it close or loose, but prefer when they let them play hockey. I'm sure the Flyers will study the video and make adjustments, Laviolette is a good coach, but we now have ourselves a series. Should be a good time in Mtl. on Sat night!

Well I am glad that the Canadiens won!! I really hope they comeback in this series. I would love to see an original six finals!!

And C-Dawg here you go...

"In 1916, an "H" for Hockey replaces the letter "A". The change is linked to the purchase of the team by the Canadien Hockey Club, run by Mr George Kennedy. A blue stripe is added above the white, at the bottom part of the jersey as it now truly begins to resemble the Canadiens jersey as we know it."

I'd like to think Philly is particular about their goalies, which is why they go through so many of them. 8) You sure have had a bunch this season.

I agree. I've never understood why Philly refuses to pay for a goalie when they have no problem spending on everyone else.
Bob Gainey offered Halak to Philly during the regular season for a top 6 player of their choice, but they turned him down. I bet they're wishing they had now (and I'm glad they did refuse :D ).

The closest to a big name goalie we had was Vanbeezbrooke, and that was after he was in his prime. There were rumblings years back regarding Cujo but it neve panned out.

Not a fan, but Habs is short for the french "les habitants" translation = residents.

My take on goalies is they are hit or miss (sort of like wives :) ) and you need to give them time to settle in and get use to the team. Yeah, they will have ups and downs but given a stable environment, you should be able to judge their level of ability. From a casual observer, it seems Philadelphia is a little too quick with their goaltending decisions. They don't give the guys enough of a chance. I'd love to get a Philly fans opinion on this since. I may be waaaay of base and freely admit that.

We are always in a "Win Now/Panic Mode" so if the goalie doesn't pan out in 2 years there gone, for instance Marty Biron. Ed Snider hasn't had a cup since 75', this team is his life he'll tinker with this team regardless of how long a player has been here if he thinks it might get them closer to antoher championship.

All I know is I hope Montreal stays woken up and wins game 4 and beats Philly.

Chicago has clipped the Sharks fins - they're on the verge of drowning. Good.

Canadiens found the formula to beat Philly in Game 3, and promptly forgot how in Game 4. No speed, no hustle, and played right into the Flyers hand, playing the Flyers style game.
The Habs love to play with their backs against the wall.....guess they got their wish. You have to believe Philly will be pumped to end it at home.
