Jimmy Buffett's mythical Margaritaville is about to become a reality on Pensacola Beach.
The legendary singer-songwriter has reached an agreement with Pensacola developer Marilyn Woodbury-Hess to launch the first Margaritaville Beach Hotel in a $50 million, 162-room Gulf-front hotel expected to open in late May or early June.
Here's the whole article:

This is wonderful news! Right down the street from where we live! Suppose there will be a grand opening gala?

The article is not very clear. Is it 2010 or 2011. Surely this has not been going on under our noses for all this time and it is about to open?????!!!!!

Just watched the WEAR-TV report. The hotel is slated to open for the 2010 summer season, possibly in a few weeks. Plus they are constructing a 5000sq. ft. Tiki Bar. They go on to say that there will be a Margaritaville restaurant, but it won't open until Spring, 2011. The report also says that JB will be there for the grand opening....stay tuned!

I certainly hope this is chronologically the first hotel, and isn't going to replace the Hollywood, FL. project. If anyone has any precise info please post it. The article was confusing, especially the opening dates, that's hardly enough time to pull permits.
As always, G.M.,Jr.

Wow, we already had a trip planned for the family to hit Gulf Islands National Seashore in June. With the oil spill we have been kind of bummed and watching the updates daily. This gives us something else to look forward to on the trip.

I'm reminded of this post from our friend Bwana Paul earlier this year regarding Margaritaville Restaurants:
Bwana Paul wrote:I hope you all enjoy this educational and entertaining quote directly from Mr. Buffett.
"I don't want them every mile in America. I don't need the money, so I don't want a cash cow out there."
-Jimmy Buffett to Vernon Silver of the
New York Times.
With that said, I've always loved the conch fritters.

If that quote is true, it begs the question - why does he keep opening new ones?
That being said, I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping the first Margaritaville Hotel would somehow be tied in with the Margaritaville Dinner Theater in Branson, MO. After all, he's doing almost enough cover tunes to qualify as a lounge act.

No oil from the spill on any Florida Beaches. It's business as usual. Come on down and enjoy your vacation!

Thanks Catsway. First things first. The old travel trailer is headed to the Frisco show and then we set our sights on Fort Pickens. Heard many good things about the area and we can't wait to get there.

"I know that this may sound funnny..."
Great verse from his song a LONG, LONG time ago, when Margaritaville was a mythical place and not yet a merchandising concept.
P.S. The credit card will definitely NOT be issued by The Bank of Bad Habits !!

Only oil on the beach yesterday was sunscreen, beaches are still beautiful and beer at The Dock is cold. Come on down.
