Need a song

As the local Buffettologist I was was just assigned the duty of recommending a song that our neighbors can use as a dedication for their son & daughter's upcoming B'nai Mitzvah.

I have Barefoot Children in the Rain at the top of my quick list and placed it above Chason... as I feel it is more appropriate for the occasion. But since this is a coming of age celebration an I looking at this from the wrong perspective.

What would you recommend???

Thanks!

I think Oysters and Pearls is an excellent suggestion...it's serious enough for that occasion. (Although, We are the People our Parents Warned us about also came to mind...) :)

WOW - we are on the exact same page - these are the two songs I thought of too. I'd go with the Oysters & Pearls (the grandparents will like that one more :D )

If you are going non-Buffett - I am a HUGE fan of The River by Garth Brooks. It's a little deep and may be a bit "old" for kids this age but who knows...you may like it. I always think of this song when I think about kids/people going on to the next step in life.

You know a dream is like a river
Ever changing as it flows
And the dreamer's just the vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores.

(chorus)
And I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry.

Too many times we stand aside
And let the waters slip away
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow
Has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline
And say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids
And dare to dance the tide.

And I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry.

And there's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
I can make it through them all.

Yes I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry.

Yes, I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
'Til the river runs dry
