Teacher sorry for using assassination in lesson
Published: 5/27/10, 3:26 PM EDT

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama teacher who used a hypothetical assassination of President Barack Obama as an example in a geometry lesson says he is sorry.
Come on. Geometry?? What happened to using pool shots? At least if you are going to attempt to use a gunshot why not use the magic bullet that killed Kennedy. This teacher needs to be shown the door for a number of reasons. Not my state, not my school district so I don't have much say but if this occurred in my district, my school board would be hating on me until they were voted out of office if they let a teacher with this approach stay around.

Note: I'm not attacking all teachers here. More school boards and parents for allowing this to continue

Being a teacher in Texas I put up with this mentality all the time, from teachers and students.

I'm not the biggest Obama fan, but c'mon give the guy a break! He didn't exactly inherit a good situation.

This is just an inappropriate example. Doesn't matter if the president is Obama or Bush. Now if he had used Hitler....

Cheers

Agreed....right or wrong , good or bad, he is our President and deserves the respect of the office

DAMN

You know... it's highly questionable whether I'd vote for Obama if he ran again, but still... to go and hypothesize to students about his assassination?

I just don't get some folks. They cheer when he "lost" the bid for the Chicago Olympics and they boo when he "won" the Nobel Peace Prize.

I admit, although I am a Democrat, I'm no longer a big Obama fan, and I definitely scratched my head in confusion when they awarded him the Nobel "I'm Not GWBush" Peace Prize.

Even though... many people were obviously furious and disgusted when The President of The United States won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Come on, folks. Being critical is ok. Being unpatriotic is another.

(I'm not talking to any BN'ers at all... just dumbasses like the teacher in the story. Believe me, there are plenty.)

Then you ought to fix your thread title. And that teacher deserves the blame in this case, not the parents.
Get your thoughts and feelings sorted out a little. I think we might have the beginnings of a good thread here. But the title and the misdirect to school boards and parents detracts from a good discussion.

Ridiculous...

On a seperate matter Skibo...you mention the magic (single) bullet theory....your profile pic has our good buddy from PA - Arlen Spector. He was on the Warren Commission and is credited with being at least the co-author of the single bullet theory. :o

Isn't using the assassination of any person as an example inappropriate?

Don't we already have a generation of young people who watch very violent
movies and video games and think it's normal?

Why on earth would any teacher use assassination as a geometry example!

To catch their attention. It's still wrong however.

I live here in Alabama about 60 miles from where the incident took place. The anti-Obama hatred here is unbelievable. I had dared to believe that racism of this magnitude was a thing of the past, but as usual I dared to have hope for the goodness in the heart of my fellow man and that is a stupid thing to have these days. Obama is doing a good job and these clowns down here can't stand it.
