Dodger was my best friend. Every day I would come home from work, open the door and there he was. No matter how terrible my day was...I could always take one look at that wagging tail, floppy ears and big brown eyes and I would ALWAYS smile.
We got him when he was a pup, the son of Pudgy Pete. We walked into the kennel, there were about 8 beagles running around playing and happy. One beagle in particular ran up to us, barked and wanted to play. "I like this one!" Shriena said to me and I looked down and petted her head. I looked up to tell the breeder we had made our choice, a pudgy little beagle slowly walked over, plopped down on his backside, cocked his head and it looked like he smiled at us. Shriena looked at me and we knew this little guy was destined to be our dog.
When he was little, his ears were so big it looked like he would take off like Dumbo when he ran.
I'm not sure where he learned it, but he loved to get a toy, bring it to you and as you reached for it, he would run off almost like a prance like he was showing off teasing you to chase him.
There was a time I was grilling hamburgers and I left a large plate of mashed potatoes on the table. When I brought the hamburgers in my potatoes were gone, and there was Dodger licking the potatoes from his lips. I wan't even angry...I just laughed out loud and made vegetables instead.
Dodger loved chasing squirrels, if he had a resume this would be on his job skills.
Dodger was secretly a ninja dog. We didn't like him on the bed, but when we fell asleep (and he knew when we were) he snuck up on the bed and curled up next to us. We wouldn't realize til it was morning and were so tired we didn't care anymore.
He loved sitting on his haunches and begging for table food. We labeled it a talent and called it "Sittin' Pretty".
Dodger loved laps, and if he had the chance, he would climb in yours and fall asleep.
He hated having his nails cut, we had to give him some sedatives to do it.
Dodger loved wrestling on the bed (even though I wasn't supposed to let him on the bed). His favorite things is trying to get you or the toy while you were under the covers.
I could go on...but I'm afraid I'll short out my laptop with tears.
I I know wherever you are, you are wagging your tail, flopping your ears around and looking with those big brown eyes...and someone is smiling.
right now...it's not me. :'( Love you buddy and I miss you terribly.
