I am passing this on from an Parrothead club email........I have not checked the number but I know some are complaining to ebay....supposedly they have a policy to not allow items that were free for charity to be re-sold.

Why should they when they can find people stupid enough to pay that much for free tickets?palmettopirate wrote:OystersandBeer wrote:
Ebay just sold a set of four "free" tickets for $699.00. What the hell is wrong with people? I'm talking about the ones buying them. Selling them is bad enough, but to pay that much to hear the same songs we've heard for the last...well. Whatever. To each his own.
Four pavilion seats for a JB concert run over $600 for the same songs we've heard over and over, so how can you blame a buyer for paying $699 for a unique event?
Well you really can't but the point of the event is to attract tourists to the area to help stimulate the local economy, not the pocketbooks of the scalpers. That's where the shame comes in. You'd think they'd lay off for at least one freakin' show, especially one like this where the guys are playing for free.
I'd like to go but I don't have a ticket so I'm staying home. Going to a concert just isn't that important to me in the grand scheme of things. There are more important things to expend my energy on than getting all worked up about scalpers.

Re: Jimmy Buffett/ Zac Brown Band/Kenny Chesney Free July 1 Show
I had called Kaiser Realty in Gulf Shores yesterday. They had bunches of single bedroom gulf front condos the area for $99 per night plus tax. (Some of these units sleep 6 with hall bunks and sleeper sofas.) That's been an ongoing special to attract folks. I asked them if they were going up for the event. The lady said of course not, they wouldn't do that under the circumstances. I just called back a few minutes ago out of curiosity and they are booking like crazy - nothing left close by due to the show. I told the lady it must be nice. She said they were all excited about the business. This was a dfferent lady from yesterday but I asked again if they went up on the single bedrooms. She said no. Take note scalpers. There are nice folks in the world. Oh, Kaiser had vacancies at a place called The Lighthouse but the $99 special didn't apply there because it's so new but they are giving a 25% discount anyway.
Every day you wake up you get another chance to do it right.

Maybe ebay is actually doing something about this. A check of their site only shows 3 auctions. I checked completed items and alot of the autions where ended without a sale, hopefully ebay is shutting them down.srkmrd wrote:I am passing this on from an Parrothead club email........I have not checked the number but I know some are complaining to ebay....supposedly they have a policy to not allow items that were free for charity to be re-sold.

I haven't had a chance to look yet... are there listings on stubhub, craigslist, etc too? These people are evil, and they must be stopped!

An event like this invites scalpers. Jimmy, Zac Brown, Kenny Chesney. While I didn't, why wouldn't anyone who knew of this not try to get tickets to scalp? It's free money with no risk. From the Gulf Beaches Facebook page
The Press Secretary for Governor Bob Riley tweeted earlier that he "Just got off the phone with representatives from EBay. They have banned resale of the Gulf Shores Buffett show on their site."

I feel terribly for everyone working so hard to turn this benefit concert into a reality, only for it to be so heinously tarnished by greed, turning the distrubution of tickets into a major debacle that blew up in their face.

The logic is simple enough. It's just that at a time like this you'd think people would act a little more honorably. Jimmy and Kenny and Zac could have sold tix for $100 each. at 35,000 tickets that comes to $3,500,000 for the area they could have donated but they kept it simple to get people to the coast. Some of these scalpers are probably whining and complaining about BP just like the rest of us. They ought to be thanking BP for making them a bunch of money.

Craigslist is pretty much dead in our area right now. We had a family killed because they placed an ad to sell a wedding ring.looking4OPH wrote:Yep, all over Craigslist.Tiki Bar wrote:I haven't had a chance to look yet... are there listings on stubhub, craigslist, etc too? I just sent this email to all the Radio Margaritaville DJs:Tiki Bar wrote:If they release a CD and / or DVD, cherry on the sprinkles on the icing on the cake.
Subject: Gulf Shores concert DVD request
"I know CMT and Radio Margaritaville are going to broadcast "part" of the Gulf Shores concert. I wish we could get a ba'jillion pholks to contact CMT/RM and request they record it all and sell a 2 DVD set ($50? $75? maybe throw in a special t-shirt?) of the concert with proceeds going to the Gulf recovery."
Now to figure out who at CMT to send this too.
Are you one of the "ba'jillion' ?

Re: Jimmy Buffett/ Zac Brown Band/Kenny Chesney Free July 1 Show
I'm not condoning the scalping, but it's naive to think people will act more honorably than normal. How many people got tickets on the off-chance they might be able go? Again, why not, they were free?palmettopirate wrote:An event like this invites scalpers. Jimmy, Zac Brown, Kenny Chesney. The problem w/ charging for the tickets at this venue is that it looks like it will be easy to crash. How would you like to spend $100 on tickets and then have 60,000 show up and half are there "free?"
While I applaud the artists for doing this, I suspect they are too big for this type of thing. I'm afraid this is going to turn into a major cluster****.

So where is the party for those of us without tickets? I have to come home to check on mom and one of the axe murderers wants to take me to Gulf Shores. I'd love to score two tickets, but I doubt that will happen.

So if anyone wants to give anyone on ebay a piece of their mind, here you go. There are currently 4 posts looking to "sell" free tickets. One of them is a fundraiser, but I have my doubts.
