Didn't watch the video, but bureaucratic red tape suggests government intervention. Quick synopsis for those of us too lazy to watch, please???

I really, really don't get this... How can BP get to say who can help??? It smacks of "we don't want you out there on the water because we don't want you to see how bad it really is..."

That it does, Jen....but BP isn't solely responsible for that. Our own government has made it almost impossible for even the best oiled wildlife rescuers to get out their and do what they're trained to do. You would not believe the amount of red tape there is, and this has been going on for decades. The organizations that are on the ground are taking a lot of bad press from having to turn away qualified organizations and people, and it really is beyond their control. We're lucky to have the folks who are in the trenches. I'm not surprised they turned Jimmy's efforts away...that would bring waaaaay too much publicity to what is *REALLY* happening out there. It's beyond insane. We're going to end up with rogue groups of people with the best of intentions going out and trying to rescue wild animals...with disasterous results. :-? :(

This is what happens when you have decades of government in bed with big oil....

Just watched this on Anderson Cooper. What a load of crap! This is such a horrible thing. So much has been lost. I have seen several shows with people on them showing many different things available to use to help the clean up. Only one has been contacted by BP. Most say they can't use the ideas bcuz they have to be tested more. Seriously?!? How about we test them now!!! BP should not get a say at this point. They have lied to us and they have had alot of time to get something done.

I can't believe this is being allowed to happen. BP shouldn't have any say in this at all. Absolutely unbelieveable and unforgiveable!!

How is this even possible? BP has created an environmental hazard... Jimmy Buffett has offered to help and he gets turned down? How can they turn down anyone at this point? What gives them the right to dictate who does and does not get involved? This is incomprehensible.

BP needs to worry about shutting off the spewing source of this stuff. If there are willing volunteers ("Small People" in their eyes) who can do whatever they can to help, then shutup and let 'em help! As big as this mess continues to get, BS, -er, sorry, BP needs all the help they can get.

It has been over two months now. Pathetic...

They WILL do it. They said it on the video and I believe it, especially after all the publicity.
But WHY DO THEY HAVE TO GET PERMISSION TO BE ON THEIR BOATS ON THE FRIGGIN' WATER ??? Maybe they should just go ahead and get out there in the shallows. Who can stop them ? And why would they ?

And did anybody else wonder how they got Jimmy's email address ?

Just another case of the government being run by big business. You can say it's not true but, would you let the cable company come into your house and tell you how to run it? Time and time again we have proven that the american people can come together and overcome anything. When will the government allow us to have our country back. And as I type this how much oil is coming out of that pipe BP? Do you even know? You broke the Gulf, let us fix it. Sorry for the rant:)

Remember that the government is "..of the people, by the people, and for the people..." (Lincoln). Up to now we have willingly handed it over to those who do not have our best interests at heart. The scoundrels and scalawags we have been electing these many years have learned well the lesson of 'divide and conquer' and have become masters at its use.
"We the people" will get our government back as soon as we decide we want it back, derail the political machine in control there now, and take an active interest in what is going on overall rather than just what concerns us specifically.
