Do NOT cancel your Gulf shores Reservations.
After getting shut out during the ticket fiasco this a.m. I got on the horn to see what I could find out concerning a second show etc.
There is not going to be a second show but I did manage to uncover evidence that the sale today was quite possibly a sham. That the distribution of 35,000 TICKETS was done to prevent too many people from converging on Gulf Shores to thin the herd of people who will actually show. From making calls to a few sources in the GS area I have been able to ascertain that there has been no fencing ordered or any contracts signed for erection of said fencing.
When the Hangout had their music festival a few weeks ago fencing was erected.
My sources seem to indicate also that JB and the other acts are as we all know upset at the scalpers. Question: if this turns out to actually be a come one come all show who is today's ticket fiasco going to pound in their collective poop chute? Scalpers, ticket brokers or what ever you want to call these leeches of life that's who. And we get to go and experience the equivalent of seeing Elvis singing in the front yard of his house at Tupelo or Graceland.
So do what I'm doing plan on going to the beach, to see the show and hear the music. Plan to stay an extra day or two and eat in a restaurant or two extra and tip a little better than usual. Buy your beer down there, hit the local grocers, just spread the love.
And don't give up we will know something definite probably by Friday.

I'm confused on just what "more" we could know by Friday. Could you give us a hint?Wildh2oskier wrote:And don't give up we will know something definite probably by Friday.

Re: Do NOT cancel your Gulf shores Reservations.
The place is huge, can hold more than 50,000. I am sure ton's of people all over the country with no intention of going went on ticketmaster for the collectability of having a ticket to such a historic event.
They won't turn you away, and you can always walk along the shore line from the back part of the beach.
Check the google map. It's impossible to fence it off. Lets hope it does not rain.
Now parking, thats another matter.

Re: Do NOT cancel your Gulf shores Reservations.
I saw this on Facebook page from Alabama Gulf Coast:
A Note About the Jimmy Buffett ConcertShare
Today at 6:47pm
A lot of folks have been upset today about the ticketing process and the fact that some people attempted to profit from this event. We want to set the record straight on some of the issues that have come up today. This is information that has been confirmed through official sources such as the City of Gulf Shores, etc.
First, people have questioned why there is a limit on how many can attend. It is the city's first priority to keep the public safe. The concert must be ticketed, and attendance limited, because of traffic issues and safety issues. Unlike the Shrimp Festival, this event has one stage and is in one concentrated area. This requires that fewer people attend. The decision to limit attendance was made by the city, Jimmy Buffett's team, and concert promoters.
Second, please be aware that the Governor of Alabama did everything in his power to ensure that no scalping would be tolerated. He reached out to Ebay to ensure the tickets were removed for sale. Ebay has made a firm commitment to limit this activity. The city of Gulf Shores is also committed to ensuring no tickets are sold at the event site.
Third, we want you to know that we have a terrific holiday weekend shaping up here in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. This show, plus fireworks shows and the Montgomery Gentry show at the Wharf, mean there is plenty to do all weekend. We invite you to come and enjoy our coast.
Fourth, tickets were available to everyone with either phone or internet access. There was no limiting of tickets to certain people or groups. A number of tickets were available for the visitors bureau. ALL of these tickets were given to our lodging partners for them to make available to people coming here to stay for the event. Lodging providers individually make the decision on how to distribute those tickets.
Again, we hope you will join us for this fantastic holiday weekend. With such a huge demand for the Buffett show tickets, it's not surprising tickets were gone so quickly. Big name shows in even larger venues often sell out very quickly as well, and given that these tickets were free, it is not surprising. We do know it will be a great show that can be enjoyed by many. We will keep you posted on any further developments.
Thank you!

Re: Do NOT cancel your Gulf shores Reservations.
while technically true, it appears that the mass dialers of the scalpers were able to tie up enough tickets that non-fans got the vast majority of the seats in the name of profitting on a goddam charity event.Fourth, tickets were available to everyone with either phone or internet access. What does that mean? What is a "lodging partner"? A hotel? A condo association? And THEY were given tickets?!? What about those Ticketbasterd was "selling"? Huh?fin fan wrote:ALL of these tickets were given to our lodging partners for them to make available to people coming here to stay for the event. Re: Do NOT cancel your Gulf shores Reservations.
Apparently, an e-mail was sent late Monday by Jimmy to many of the lodging facilities at Gulf Shores. The lucky few who responded were given tickets - with the written agreement to not release them until yesterday after the general release at 10. After that, lodging facilities who were able to get the tickets ahead of time could advertise "Come-and-visit the gulf coast - and get your Jimmy Buffett tickets" packages. That is what we did. Since we were shut out as most people were through Ticketmaster, we decided to change reservations and get free tickets through the new lodging facility.looking4OPH wrote:What does that mean? Re: Do NOT cancel your Gulf shores Reservations.
That is how all of them should have been done in my opinion, although that wouldn't work for people who live in the area. But still, I guess the whole point was to draw in the tourists and get people to spend money locally so that they can survive this mess.
So still, all tickets should have been put into some kind of package, otherwise it defeats the purpose of the free concert.
Sclapers...... anyone who is scalping tickets for this charity event..... well I would say that there is a special place in hell for those people.
What a mess made out of something that had wonderful intentions.

This is starting to sound like Woodstock meets the Information Age
(Cop) "From what I've heard from the outside sources for many years I was very, very much surprised and I'm very happy to say we think the people of this country should be proud of these kids, not withstanding the way they dress or the way they wear their hair, that's their own personal business; but their, their inner workings, their inner selves, their, their self-demeanour cannot be questioned; they can't be questioned as good American citizens."
"Good morning! What we have in mind is breakfast in bed for four hundred thousand."
"Please get off the towers"

Re: Do NOT cancel your Gulf shores Reservations.
No disrespect meant to the governor but does this guy really understand how the scalpers get their tickets? If they won't be sold on e-bay they WILL be sold via other means, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.fin fan wrote: . . . The scalpers have the tickets purchased via folks in foreign countries (100's of them) who go to ticketmaster's site, and type in the special word(s) that are supposedly there to stop special recycling programs from working, and have the tickets sent somewhere else. These folks get paid something, and have zero interest in the concert. There are so many of these folks doing the work of the devil that ticketmasters safety measures are useless. With that being said scalpers will be part of our life forever. Unless a modified form of the paperless ticket process can be implemented, as with Miley Cyrus last year.
Talking to you is like clapping with one hand.
