The beach was TRASHED! I yelled for people to pick up their crap before they left. One girl in a zebra print "clubbing dress" and heels said "they have a machine that does that".  NEO had to hold me back...and then some other A$$HAT said...well they are paying people to pick it up and they need the money. I kept apologizing to all the workers I'd see. I picked up trash all the way back to our condo.....

Wow, what a day! We have to commend Gulf Shores, Baldwin county (back where I come from), the State of Alabama and the organizers for putting this event together in three weeks and still pull it off without a hitch. The folks in all the restaurants that we went to were extra gracious. Everyone we had contact with in Gulf Shores was super nice.

The show was awesome. Getting to see Jimmy perform with collaborators Jesse and Will was almost historical. Allen perfoming his little dity " Hanging out with Jimmy Buffett" was a fun surprise. But Allen's "Yes We Can" was one of our personal highlights. The show actually was two segments. the first everyone saw on CMT was Jimmy's most familiar songs to appeal to the masses. The second set that was not broadcast was a little slower paced and featured the music you don't always get to hear.

We commented after the show that all our "concertmates" around us were well behaved and fun to party with. No drama. The bonus this weekend was seeing so many BN'ers and getting to meet and greet. Lulu's seemed to be our homeport. We thank you all for your friendship and fun.

And one more shout out is to Lucy Buffett for letting Mr. Utley share her fun and to the wonderful BN member for making it possible for us to attend.

Glad y'all had fun! I did a book signing at LuLu's a few years ago and they were fantastic! They even let the band who travels with me do a gig! I so wish I could have been there!!!

We had an amazing weekend! We walked the beach early this morning and it was trashed! A big bunch of peeps were in there picking up all the mess. Gonna take a while. I'll post more when we get back about the set list which was fantastic. Our flight doesn't leave P'cola until 6 so we're going to the Margaritaville Hotel for a late lunch. See ya on the flip side.
BTW I love BNers. : )
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

The guy was very aggressive and wanted to punch out one of the people I was with. Or at least get her to start something to get thrown out. We got him thrown out.

Dean, had a blast with you. Don't think I'll make it to lunch.

Does anyone have the new lyrics to Coast is Clear? Never cried at a show, but was pretty damn close last night. I can't stop watching the video on CMT.

I was there with a few other people, and had a blast! Not to mention getting on CMT! :D

When he was talking about how the local Baldwin County people might not understand the boys in their grass skirts and coconut bras - the camera cut to me... LOL!

Image

Had a hellova time, only two references to it being BP's fault, etc. No political stuff at all.

The sad thing is that there were some p*** people in the crowd when the show was over and Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Kid Rock, etc didn't make a showing like all the rumors floating around on Satutrday and Sunday. They got a FREE beach concert from Jimmy Buffett, and were complaining!

this will be taken badly by some, but I'd say those complaining were "yellowalbumfans", who don't realize just how rare concerts on the beach are, much less free ones.

Exactly!

Something similar happened here in the early 90's at Ladd Stadium. He played some "less popular" stuff and the crowd didn't hesitate in letting him know they wanted to hear the "old stuff".

Unfortunately, the tickets to this went mostly to people looking for a good time rather than fans who truly appreciated the event for it's rarity and meaning. Don't get me wrong - people were friendly and courteous for the most part. However, lots were throwing their cans and trash on the beach - the very beach that the concert was there to preserve. The overall ignorance of a few really did tarnish the experience for a lot of people, I'm afraid....

the irony of this would keep a company of old men with metal detector rigs busy for months, even after the cleanup

While this show was NO DOUBT a great idea, I had a bad feeling with that many fans (not Phans) in the 35,000 it may turn into a cluster****. From the pics & early firsthand accounts sounds like it came off better than I anticipated. [smilie=superkewl.gif]
Hope the aftermath was indeed manageable.

I SAW BalconyGirls (Cindi). But didn't see Karacal, dnw, the Texas girls, or Tom or Pam (Captain ParrotHead and Pamisoo). :(
We hadn't had rain in a long time and of COURSE, during the concert, my DISH network went out twice during the concert while I was recording it because of a rainstorm.
OF ALL THE TIMES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they replay it so I can get it all and see if I see other BN'rs. I USD-ed* Debbie to see where they were standing but didn't get a reply. Can you imagine ? They were too busy listening to Jimmy and having fun to reply ! The very idea !!!!!! 8) 8) 8)
KIDDING !!!!!!!

More beach concerts in the works!

http://blog.al.com/live/2010/07/faith_h ... uld_h.html

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- A series of free beach concerts may be in the works on the Alabama coast, courtesy of BP.

A free Jimmy Buffett concert Sunday drew thousands to the beach in Gulf Shores.

Officials say they hope to line up a string of big-name performersthrough the fall with funding from BP, whose oil spill has hurt tourismon the Gulf of Mexico coast.

Promoters say acts may include country singers Faith Hill and Zac Brown and soft rocker Jack Johnson.

The free shows would help lure visitors to the beach where Buffett played and generate business for hotels, condominiums, restaurants and stores.

A $15 million tourism grant from BP could be used to stage the shows. About $3.5 million in tourism promotion money from BP paid for the Buffett concert. The performers donated their time.
