Go For Broke History and Free Download
Inspired by their loyalty and dedication to our country, Shimabukuro produced “Go For Broke” to remember the courageous contributions and sacrifices made by this most highly-decorated U.S. unit in military history. “Go For Broke” was the motto selected by the nisei (a person born to parents who emigrated from Japan) soldiers to express the determination by the men to give it their all and risk everything in honor of their country despite the many challenges they faced.
The nisei veterans have been a source of inspiration for Shimabukuro since he was a young boy. “Whenever I am faced with a problem, I always ask myself “how can I handle this situation in a way that would make a nisei veteran proud?’” he added.
“It’s my hope that “Go For Broke” will remind everyone of all ages about how the AJA soldiers served our country so that we, especially Americans of Asian ancestry, could have more opportunities and better lives here in America,” said Shimabukuro. “I think that anyone who hears their story will be inspired to be a better person,” he added.
“Go For Broke” is a song from Shimabukuro’s next album, Peace Love Ukulele, which will be released on September 28, 2010, by Hitchhike Records.
