Etiquette 101
Your invited to a party at the last minute (2 hours prior) personally, you offer the gentleman some Rum Jumbie as a ty/ appreciation, because you have a good buzz going on
he say's just bring it
Do you bring the open bottle, do you bring a new bottle keeping in mind I only have 2.5 bottles and one is spoken for at a Buffett concert in Aug. and it's nearly impossible to get it anywhere. Also there's no way what ever I bring will not be drank/drunk I feel weird bringing a bottle home after bringing it to a party. So the right thing to do is???? Also the wife is an attorney and the husband is the top emergency management guy of my county who pulled a few strings when we were without electricity during the blizzaards this past winter and who will probably do the same if we get hurricanes this summer..
Finally don't you hate sobering up just to get drunk again ....

How good of friends? How full is the bottle? Personally, I'd bring an open one, and tell them this was your last bottle, but wanted to share.

Yep, me too. If you had a day's notice you couldn't get away with this but on 2 hours notice, on a Sunday, you can.backstreets77 wrote:I like that idea.SMLCHNG wrote:How good of friends? Then that's really up to you.. if you wanna share all of it or some. And if wouldn't make you uncomfortable to not share a whole bottle.

So if he's your neighbor, does that mean that the little favor he pulled for you was actually one that he benefited from?
I'd take the open bottle.
I'd take the open bottle.

Re: Etiquette 101
Where I come from, you take a new bottle and leave it at the hosts home whether it gets opened or not.
Rub yours on me and I'll rub mine on you

Re: Etiquette 101
New bottle....you did not say you have a open bottle of something that you would like to bring....if it is (real) family....and you are adding to the liquor supply that is different.
This is a gift.
So if you are down bottle, you ask on here, BN, who can get me a bottle or anyone know of somewhere....

Re: Etiquette 101
I'm actually suprised Cocktail didn't get bleeped
I probably would not take an open bottle to a party because I would not take it back home once I brought it. However if this is a "neighbor" and short notice, and you only have a single bottle (and that is opened) it's probably okay, with the understanding that
1. It hasn't been opened too long.
2. You have NO intention of leaving with it.

If it was byob and just me drinking it, open bottle. Bringing something for my host...gotta go sealed bottle even if I have to step down a grade and they don't get the good stuph. Serve him a drink from your open bottle next time he's at your house. An open bottle seems kind of like bringing a big bowl of dip that already has a few swipes out of it or a pizza with a few slices gone.

Re: Etiquette 101
could bring a full/closed bottle of something nice as a gift, and then bring the opened bottle to share and bring back home with you?

Re: Etiquette 101
I would lie a little and say it was the last bottle you had and you just HAD to bring what you had left, cause you know how much they will like it. Also, I would bring a full, unopened bottle of something else. You still have your 2 bottles in reserve and you shared the good stuff.

Re: Etiquette 101
We (the party goers) ended up drinking a bottle and a half by the end of the night
cocktail is both a noun and a verb in my dictionary I could probably use it as an adjective as well
When your seriously concerned about the welfare of your family because your snowed in, it's getting dark, and you have no electricity/heat you really don't care if a favor benefits the individual that was trying to assist you
