it's german village, and you should definitely go there. another nice area is the short north. there is also the arena district downtown. grandview is cute as is bexley. easton is a nice shopping plaza off of 270. polaris is a good mall and shopping area, too. of course there are ohio state football games starting in september. columbus is a great place to live...i lived there for a year. my sister went to law school there so i can ask her for more suggestions.

i plan to see all the teams at some point or another, the crew, the clippers, osu, and the blue jackets. but i don't see myself getting season tickets for any of them.

tickets are expensive, so that's not something i could do on a regular basis.

i've been to German Village, and i liked that a lot. stopped at Schmidts and had a beer and a cream puff and walked around a little bit and got some pics.

tho, i get the impression a lot of the 'districts' are shopping and eating oriented? i tried the arena district and couldn't find a place to park w/out spending money before i even got out of the car. and i'm not really a shopper

i moved her from rural NC, so city life has been a bit of an adjustment

years and years ago, my mom came up here all the way from NC on a bus trip sponsored by the hospital she works for and they went to the basket factory and loved it

yes, a lot of the districts are shopping and eating oriented. come to think of it the year i lived in columbus i did shop and eat a lot. but, i'm sure there are other things worth doing in columbus...what types of places are you interested in going? let me know and i can see if i can help.

i agree that going to an osu game is a must...people are very passionate about their buckeyes down there. the tailgating is great(it reminded me of going to a buffett concert in lot of ways). i didn't care about osu football until i lived down there...now i am a buckeye fan for life.

anyway, hope you enjoy your stay in the great state of ohio.

One of the first things I did when I was planning the move up to Seattle was check out Rodeside America's website for odd things to see around Seattle so I checked out Columbus.

Seems as if a lot of what they had listed has been destroyed. You've still got the Lighthouse of God, The (F) ART sculpture, The Ohio Historical Society's two headed calf and mummy. But the one that really has me curious is The Pit of Hell. I could have sworn the Pit of Hell was in Cleveland.

Columbus, Ohio - Giant Praying Mantis
On Ohio State University's west campus area, there is a huge green praying mantis.

The "Gallery Hop" in the Short north district is a must. http://www.shortnorth.org/news.asp?n=124

Going down to the Arena district is nice but pricey. If you don't mind walking a little you can park down by the Clippers new stadium cheaper parking there. $5 on game days $3 non game days.

Depending on your age you may enjoy the campus bars and nightlife

Easton Towne Center is an amazing stop. You can waste an entire day there and not buy a thing. Plus some really good restaurants.

With a little driving 20-45 minutes you can be at a few really nice lakes. Hoover-15-20 mins Buckeye lake 30-45 mins

I have lived in this area all my life. Worked in Columbus 10 years now. I live outside of Columbus to the east in Newark, 40 min drive.

For several years quite a few years back I used to go visit the basket factory/potteries every year. I "overcollected" and have waaaay too much stuff to dare going back now.

well i missed the gallery hop this year, but i saw some stuff that sounded good on the calendar of events for the short north.

and the lakes would be up my alley. i LOVE to spend time near water.
