The Power of Buffett Never Ceases to Amaze Me

I'm a parrotthead since I was a kid (33 now) and have had my wife a kids hooked for years now. We just got back from yet another trip to Key West and just this morning booked our trip to Vegas to see Jimmy live. I try to explain to people what the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle is all about and some people get it while others don't. Well, what I just experienced in my living room, in land locked Colorado no less, sums it up pretty well.

I recorded the Gulf Shores concert a couple nights ago. This morning while we were hanging out I even listened to the re-broadcast on Radio Margaritaville. Tonight I finally got around to watching the TV concert from CMT. I was simply blown away. For the most part it was another fun filled JB concert. Fins up, beach balls n the air, beer flowing, grass skirts blowing. But what made it special was how personal the concert was to him. A lot of people do benefit type concerts and most, if not all, are heartfelt. But this show was different.

I thought it was a great, and genuine, gesture when Jimmy announced he would do the Gulf Shores concert. What I didn't know was that watching the concert would make me sing, laugh and cry all the same. Watching Jimmy end the TV portion of the show with Coast is Clear was something I will never forget and never delete from the DVR. He has more money than any of us could ever spend but this crap going on in his hometown really does bother him. It means something to him. And he is sincere in doing his part to provide a couple hours of escape for the people affected most by all this.

I'm sorry for carrying on but seeing him struggle through that last song sent 2 tears down my cheek. One for all the people going through this disaster in the Gulf. And one for how real JB is. Never mind the beer, rum, tequila, restaurants and hotels. To fans like me, he is about the music and the mindset and all the other stuff is a sidebar that you can take or leave.

And after what I just watched, I'll take every last bit of it. Fins up Jimmy. You're the man.

I agree and I think Jimmy brought his "A game" that night.
My favorite is easily "when the coast is clear" but I also like what he did with "Where The Boat Leaves From". I missed the original broadcast and it kinda blows that the rebroadast was edited down but still I'll take it. Good...no great stuff!!

JB loves where he came from, that much was completely and totally obvious. A very special show.

Agreed.......for those who have labeled JB as building the Margaritaville brand "only for the money" that show was, in my opinion, resounding proof of his sincerity and love for the gulf coast. And, like many celebrities, I'm certain that JB gives back so much more than any of us will ever know. It is his ongoing success (and our willingness to spend money on him!) that fuels his ability to give back to society.

Thanks, Jimmy, for all you do...... :pirate:

Sunday night was magical for all involved. It was an awesome way to end the day. I don't doubt at all that the whole band put it all out there to make the performance as enjoyable as they possibly could. Never mind the fact that he also did the show at Lulu's. I haven't been a fan as long as most of you, but I am guessing that surprise shows like Lulu's are not that common. He didn't have to do a single thing for the gulf. He could have very easily gone surfing during his vacation.

Tuesday, I found out that my dog has inoperable bladder cancer. I have been listening to JB more than ever this week. His music has brought so much relaxation to me this week. His Gulf concert replay on CMT put a huge smile on my face when I remembered it was being shown. He helped me get through this week with his frozen concoction maker, as well as his tequila and mix. When I need a brain break, I can listen to OPH or Woman Going Crazy on my cell phone. He has meant a lot to me this week, and he has no freakin' clue who I am in.

When the going gets tough, we always have his music to help us through it....to distract us for a bit and put a smile on our face.

Very well said. Excellent post indeed SDQ!

I have been a JB fan for only 3 years, and my regret is that I did not pay attention to Jimmy's music many years ago. However, there is a time and a place for everything, and summer of 2007 was the summer I became a Jimmy Buffett fan.

It is an honor to be a fan of Jimmy's, but the Gulf Shores concert made me even more proud if that is possible. Jimmy's love for the Gulf Coast and his sincerity were extremely obvious, and that show brought out laughter and tears.

Thank you Jimmy for providing an evening that brought so much hope to so many people.
