Buffett Playlists for Treadmill, Elliptical, Walking

Post by Pepe T. Pirate »

Has anyone put together iTunes playlists that are organized by beats per minute?

I've returned to the gym (again) and I'm thinking it would be less boring and I'd be more apt to hang in there with the Cardio if I was stairstepping, "ellipicalling", or walking to the beat of some favorite tunes strung together at same tempo. I counted my pace on the elliptical and I am currently doing about 110 to 125 beats per minute. For now, that range keeps me in the cardio Target Aerobic Zone, but in a month or two, I'll be a fitter parrot head and will have to pick up the musical and physical pace a bit. And, I'll have to put together a faster playlist!

I searched the web tonight and it appears that iTunes will inform you of an individual song's beats per minute info IF you have the song already in your library and IF you purchased it from iTunes. Also, there are inexpensive programs that will analyze your music library, but the music has to be in your computer (my music library currently resides in my car). I also found several lists with BPM info for some of my favorite oldies, but not Jimmy, Jerry Jeff in Belize, the Stones, Aretha, Zack Brown, Beach Boys, Nadira, Cheryl, Wailers, etc. I searched Buffettnews, too, but couldn't find any previous posts where folks were putting Tropical and wonderful playlists for exercising.

So, is there anyone out there who has put together iTunes playlists that are organized by beats per minute? Wanna share? BTW, 120 steps every minute = walking 3 miles an hour.
Thanks, Natalie (Pepe T.)

Here's the beachy playlist so far of songs I discovered on various DJ lists that are between 110 and 125 beats per minute! Certainly enough for a few days on the elliptical. I'm gonna buy a Nano today and will download them tonight after work. Hopefully, those 30 minutes will fly by!

110 - 125 bpm:
Margaritaville, Son of a Son, Stars on the Water, 5'oclock, Kokomo (Beachboys), Sitting of the Dock of the Bay (Otis), Banana Boat Song (Belafonte), Soak Up the Sun (Cheryl), I Can See More Miles (Who), Caribbean Queen (Billy Ocean), No Shirt, No Shoes and When the Sun Goes Down (Chesney). And because these remind me of Venice Beach/Santa Monica......Hotel CA and Life in the Fast Lane (Eagles).

The above songs are all big-hits that DJs have timed. Anyone have some lists of their own or the capability to analyze their playlists?
