Down here in south Texas, we have perfected that situation. If it's dark out, it's clothes off, just to beat the heat. I strongly recommend it. Just found out it will be over 100 degrees where we are gong for vacation. Out early, then back to the cabin for ac...then back out when the sun sets. At least we don't need to pack much!

The fact that this heat will come to an end and it will turn cold scares me.
Of course here in Central Alabama snow is not one of my concerns. But when the temps drop below 70 I freeze up. For those of you who think cold weather is more natural and better for people I say go sleep outside nude tonight and then try it again in February. I'll winterize the boat in time for Thanksgiving and hopefully break it back out again in early March.
Temperature wise I'm very happy now.

Hot Hot Hot

I'll take 100 over 50 any day, too many years in the tropics, I guess.

Pool water was 96 yesterday, that's not refreshing, but better than 60.

I love to visit tropical places, but I don't think I could live there.
There's someplace NORTH of where you live??? :o :o :o

No a/c here and too many summer nights above 70.... Usually it cools off at night here sorta near the ocean but not this year. Still, I MUCH prefer the heat to the flippin dead of winter.....

The effects of weather:

HEAT: uncomfortable, can be life threatening, affects air travel due to storms, can cause a person to stay holed up in their home (assuming you have A/C or other cooling device), can be harmful to wildlife

COLD: uncomfortable, can be life threatening, affects air travel due to storms, can cause a person to stay holed up in their home (assuming you have heat), can be harmful to wildlife

TIEBREAKER: You don't have to shovel HEAT........ :o

I groove on winter sports (go figure) and when it's one million degrees with a thousand percent humidity, it makes it hard to do anything. I grew up around here and maybe I'm just getting old.

The wife and I occasionally talk of moving up North to VT. Chris - maybe we should house swap for a week.
The BN House Swap: why haven't we done this before?
I'm in: one big old house (warm or cool as the season requires) near downtown Ottawa (Canada's capital) or one rustic cottage on a lake (not enough heat for winter)(indoor plumbing, outdoor shower, electricity, wireless internet). Will exchange for someplace interesting with a wonderful view.

I thought you were/are in Michigian already? Maybe I'm confused (which is a common occurance).
Oh yes! We are in Michigan already....but we are thinking "northern" Michigan. We're kinda halfway up the lower peninsula near the "thumb" area right now.

Kitties don't care about summer/winter. They are indoor babies. Our rescue never wants to see the outside again and my two Ragdolls live most of their lives in our bay window watching the world go by. They don't particularly want their little cat toes to touch ground either.
I'm sorry but that strikes me as funny. I realize that the UP is probably much different from the rest of Michigan but when you say move up north, I think of moving out of the same state I'm in. I guess it all depends on where you are geographically!

It's pretty much a day/night difference

From Detroit to Copper Harbor (at the northwestern tip of the UP) it is 605 miles driving distance.

To compare that, from my place in Midland, MI to Atlanta Georgia it is 676 driving miles.

Where I live = flat, fertile farmland (Things start to change shortly north of where we live in the Saginaw Valley)
UP=Rocky, rugged, mostly forested wilderness. (There are some cities scattered around the great lakes) Finsup lives near Marquette, which is a pretty cool city located right on Lake Superior. There are tons of parks and National Forests...if you love wilderness camping, it is paradise. There are also waterfalls everywhere. OK, that does it I need an "up north" vacation.

Another solid week of 100+ in Central Texas this week. Great weather for being topless in the Jeep!

I had no idea about the mileage. I should have looked at a map. And I didn't know that about Michigan. It looks like you can learn something new every day. :D

We had the second hottest July on record here on LI but I've hardly used my a/c at all. I haven't used it at night all summer and I haven't had any trouble sleeping.

Cold? I put the down comforter on the bed and I sleep like a baby...
Hot? Can't sleep!
Exactly! There are only so many layers that you can take off before you p*** off the neighbors and get a visit from the local police department.
I so agree with you!

I have to admit I've used the air more this year than ever before. It has been ungodly hot and humid here. We finally got a cool night last week and we left the windows open. A skunk decided that was the night for a stroll below our bedroom window. Whew! (windows closed very quickly at 2:00 a.m.)

Saturday was what I'd consider a perfect Michigan day. It was cool with a beautiful blue sky in the morning. Got up to a warm and pleasant 78 with no humidity during the day. sigh! It's hot sticky again today.

My horrible allergies keep my windows closed year round although I'd love to be able to do it. I would wake up stuffed up and congested for a week from the mold, fall elm, cedar, grasses, and weeds (OH MY!). Unfortunately moving isn't an option because I just develop new allergies to similar things in the new area eventually. I had a cedar allergy but it wasn't nearly as bad when we lived in Corpus Christi. Now that I living (ironically) in Cedar Park, TX my cedar allergy became much worse. There are more cedar trees in my city than there are people. Fortunately my reaction to oak weakened though so there was some give and take. I'll probably be on allergy shots for the rest of my life. For me, no matter what, the windows stay closed!
