just a little thing I noticed
since the Advent of wheeled luggage the size/number/amount of junk
that is packed onboard (rather than checked)
has climbed.. also they are hard to fit in the over head..
sooo the airlines could just outlaw the wheeled carryon..
done.. less weight and mess onboard.

I hear that there are people who are hard headed enough that they would still carry the bag anyway.

I swear that every flight I take I sit next to someone who has a "carry on" the size of a small sofa........and they block the aisle forever as they and the flight attendant struggle to make it fit in the overhead......

Either enforce the carry on size limit every time or give it up airlines.......

It wouldn't hurt my feelings if the only carry on's allowed were laptops, purses and diaper bag or backpack type things. I agree, over the years the size and amount of carry on has gotten ridiculous, not only does it take longer while these people squeeze all their crap down the aisle and into an overhead but there isn't even room for a jacket or coat (I usually fly from a cold place to a warm place and have a coat I need to store) I imagine the departure times would be improved greatly if the airlines would stick to their own carryon rules. I'm kind of surprised they haven't since most make you pay for additional luggage anyway.

My thoughts exactly. it takes so much time throw everything overhead. No wonder flights are taking longer and there are people missing connecting flights. I take a backpack and a laptop, whatever doesn't fit gets checked. That way when I land, I can grab and run. No wonder the Jet Blue employee snapped. I want to snap with people and their carry-ons every time I fly.

If the flight arrives on time, who cares what is stored overhead. The only delays I have seen exiting because of overhead luggage is the from the people in the front that have to put their bag 10-15 rows back because some clown in the back put their bag up front.

I have a confession....... I am one of those people with the big carry on.
ONLY, because I have had my luggage lost before because I used to check EVERYTHING.
My luggage got lost when I was in Tahiti. If anyone has ever been there, there is almost nowhere
to shop, and where you can shop the stuff is not that cute - unless you like flowered burlap bags
and it is VERY expensive.

Needless to say it was like being on Survivor for me because I was washing clothes in the sink,
and I had a bad hair day every day when I was there. And I was there for work, and had to go to
nice dinners...... I had to buy deodorant, and a trial size was $18. I was going to buy mousse for my hair and
that was $50..... I handled the situation with a sense of humor, but I have to admit that on day 7 of no luggage I did cry
a little bit.

I got my luggage the day before I was going home, and I swore that I was going to wear every single thing in that bag- and I did. I changed ever 15 minutes my last night there until I had worn every single thing!!!


THIS is why I now have a giant carry on. Not to mention the airlines charging for checked bags........ but before this I hated the huge carry ons too!!

While I'm sorry your bag got lost - you were in TAHITI - how bad could it be?

While it's very annoying when you are in a hurry, it is really amusing to watch what people consider "carry on" (I would almost swear I was on the flight with the small sofa coming on )

I'm always amazed at what people get away with.

However, I really don't want to give up my carry on (which is appropriately sized)

I know, I did get to go to Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora...... this is why I handled it pretty good!!

My carry on is an official carry on size which is pretty big, but I travel all of the time so I haul butt so I dont hold
anyone else up. That is a big pet peeve of mine- when people take forever. You would think that someone was knitting a sweater before sitting down!

I know, last time I flew I watched a guy in the front row stand in the aisle and VERRRRY carefully and VERRRY slowly fold his jacket and place it in the overhead - meanwhile people were stacking up behind me like cordwood!

That cracks me up about the jacket- what does he think is going to happen to it as soon as someone slams a huge carry on on top of it or next to it?

My opinion is that the bag has to fit length wise- not turned sideways taking up mist of the bin. If it doesnt fit length wise it should be checked!! Mine fits lenght wisw unless it is one of those awesome commuter planes!

A couple of weekends ago when I was sitting in the Houston airport I noticed the same thing. It really hacked me off. How did they get pass security? Why aren't the bag sized checked there and if it is too big, they are sent back to the counter?

Yeah, instead they turn it back at the door to the aircraft and then you have to wait while the person argues with the flight attendant about checking the bag!

We tried the first time this past Nov. packing just with carry on. Gotta say I LOVED IT!! What a great feeling jumping off the plane and getting the "hey" out of the airport. The flip side of that is if it takes so long getting off the plane than I could use the time and be waiting for my luggage inside the airport right???

I don't think I can go back to checked bags. I agree with some of the complaints about luggage size etc.

that hacks me off too.. just follow the stinking rules and your trip would be much more enjoyable.

one time, this "gentleman" started getting aggressive with not only the flight attendant but the local police. I had to board my plane but was dying to know if he got a free ride in a police car.

And the problem has gotten worse since they started charging for checked baggage. I know they are catering to the business traveler, but it seems to me that we would all be better served if they reversed that, and charged for carry-ons instead (or for use of the overhead bin). Planes would load faster, empty faster, it would be better for safety reasons (I have been on a flight where an overhead bin opened while we were in flight). And the airlines are letting people get away with this, and then, when the overhead bins fill, they are checking luggage for free, only encouraging these folks!

Security is there to make sure nobody gets through with knitting needles and toe nail clippers. The airlines set size limits for carry ons and are responsible for enforcing their policy.

After my lost luggage incident I did Hawaii for 10 days with a carry on!
I was pushing it though..... but it was like a person quest at that point
to accomplish that!!

After Air Tahiti lost my luggage- they gave me nothing but an Air Tahiti t shirt, a pair of "underwear" that was the equivilant of a shower cap with leg holes, a toothbrush, and a "thing" of deodorant that had to be scooped out with your finger to put on that was the consistancy of candle wax. Getting a visual??? lol

In Hawaii because I had acquired some things along the way, rather than buying another suitcase there and having to pay to check it, I went to the post office and mailed home all of my dirty clothes!!!

That is why we always use the Sky Cap, pay a few extra dollars and not worry about it! Have a few drinks get on plane and turn on Ipod...
