My wife and I have been to Key West many times, and one of our main activities is to "Walk Old Town", and every time we end up on Caroline Street, this song runs through our minds, and at some point, one of us always breaks out singing it.

Will be down in KW for FF. I am pretty sure we are going to be seeing lots of women going crazy on Caroline St.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Green Parrot. Between that, Alonzo's and SWB, those are the best places to go for a drink. I guess it has something to do with being off the beaten path.

I am currently stuck on Coconut Telegraph. I can't get enough of Island and It's My Job. I have neglected that release lately, and I don't know why. Here is to hoping Woman will be played again tonight.

Now that was a memorable experience! How safe is it to be standing out in the open with all that lightning? :o I think the venue lost power for a while before the show, but it came back up. That's the type of dedicated fans Jimmy frequently mentions at the shows.

I'm sure they sold a lot of the beach towels that night!
Ask Shannon (sunseeker) about our mad dash through the lot to try and get in the venue that night.... :o
Complete with fireball in the lot...and that grill that blew up somewhere there....I just knew I was going to die that day, in the lot, going in to a show......
But holding on to 4 other BNers, soaking wet, and swaying to "Come Monday" made every second of it worthwhile....just wonderful. [smilie=gt-happyup.gif] [smilie=happyspin.gif] [smilie=hearts.gif] [smilie=hearts.gif]

That really blows! I hope everyone was ok.

Firm believer that even though there were storms, it makes the trip that much more memorable (and fun!).

Caroline.........and Duval........and Southard.......and Whitehead.....and Eaton....and Oliva....and Angela....and Simonton.........!!!!!!!!!
Every year in the 1990s, the wife and I spent 2 to 3 weeks housesitting for friends that lived at 310 William Street (between Eaton and Caroline)
while they were away on vacation visiting their daughters here in Maryland.

Beautiful Olde Town house, wraparound porch, pool in the backyard surrounded by tropical landscaping, All we had to do was collect the mail,
feed the cat twice a day, skim the leaves from the pool and add chlorine tablet ever other day or so.

It was the perfect location. 3 blocks from Duval Street. Near Sloppy Joe's, Schooner Wharf, Mallory Square, B&O's Fish Wagon.
The Olde Town Key West Trolley tours rolled right by *our* house. After 10 years of this sweet gig, we were treated like locals by the
neighbors and more importantly ..... the bartenders.

In 2001 they sold the house and moved. I haven't been back to Key West since '01, when my wife let me do the final housesitting gig
solo sans her and the kids for 10 days.
I was spoiled. I just can't bring myself to stay in a hotel down there.

Oh ..... and we saw lots of women going crazy on William Street (and Eaton, and Caroline, and .....)

You had the perfect gig, surfpirate, one to dream of! The last 4-5 times we've been to Key West, we've rented a home in the Truman Annex from a guy we've gotten acquainted with, and love it. It's walking distance to everything, and gives us a quiet place to get back to. Plus, it's a short walk from there to Ft. Zachary State Park, and the nice beach there.

What a sweet setup, too bad it had to come to an end. Key West disease is brutal since there is no cure but more KW. If I don't get to KW at least every other year, it isn't pretty! Next time I am planning on going down during MOTM.

I've never been to Key West for a MOTM or other event. In fact I've only ever gone during the non-tourist times (like July or August),
Always HOT AS HELL ..... but I prefer the more casual aspect of those times. The locals are more laid back ... sort of.
I was able to attend Captain Tony's 85th birthday party in August '01 with mostly locals.

Yeah, from what I have read...it is WICKED hot during July and August. That is the reason why I tend to do October or November. I bet Capt. Tony's party was a blast.
