The local VFW was vandalized yesterday. Someone went after the copper in their a/c units and water heaters, etc. Gotta wait for that to settle down before I go ask them. I'm also in limbo because I might be moving back to the Gulf Coast to take care of my mom. School just started here and the kids are already out selling and fund raising.

RE: the bugle — you might try checking with a local Boy Scout troop or (since I see you're from Nashville) the Boy Scout service center out on Hillsboro Road. They might have one, or know where you could find one.

Playing Taps is a piece of cake. I played several instraments in jr. hi and hi school and taps is one of the easiest things to play.

I was at a funeral this year for a veteran and they just played a recording and held a bugle up to their lips. It was really cheesey.

They actually have "Digital Bugles" now that all you do is blow into the mouthpiece and the tune comes out.

I think I have found my bugle! I agree the cd and digital are cheesy. When my Uncle passed away, we had an actual Marine Honor Guard as well as the Marine Corps League he was a member of at the service. I have priced the pieces of my uniform and it is going to be about $250 for all the pieces. I am going to be sponsored into the Marine Corps League my Uncle was in before receiving his final orders as soon as I get back to Mobile. I'm just not sure of the time line. Limbo sucks.

cool on the bugle and uniform! And on the kids fundraising. I can never refuse a kid who comes calling with a cause. I just sponsored some complete strangers for a bike ride who stopped at the store last week.

If you have any friends who work at large companies, ask if they will put a box of candy bars in the break room/kitchen for you. Tons of people used to do this where I worked and it was always popular. It was on the honor system. An envelope was left for people to put the money in. Sometimes you would make even more than the amount the candy was selling for (especially if you had a cause that resonated with people...and I think yours will) Do a little write up about what you want to do and I'm sure you will get tons of takers. It was actually a bummer when there was no one fundraising (for some reason, they took all the candy/vending machines out of our buildings and if you had a craving for something to eat, it was always a joy to find $1.00 candy bars in the break room)

Good luck!

The kids are fund raising for their athletic programs and bands. I don't have the heart to compete since I was a softball player and band member who ended up with scholarships in both activities. My company has a strict no solicitation policy. :-(

Most VFW's and American Legions have their own bugles with someone who plays it. Now a days they don't really play it... It's a speaker they put inside the bugle, and just turn on a pre-recorded recording of TAPS

I love to learn new things. And believe me I learned from that.
