Here in Seattle the radio talk shows are buzzing about them because they are set to go live here in Seattle next month.

My first thought was well I have nothing to hide so no big deal; TSA doesn't keep the images. WRONG The more and more I listen to the talk shows about these the more apprehensive I become. I've thought no big deal I'll just opt for the pat down. But now that's all changed because "enhanced pat down" that TSA has launched. So basically now TSA will feel you up if you don't go through their full body scanner.

So I thought I'd take it to BN. What are your thoughts on a full body scanners?
I saw some short news story about pat downs @ Logan in Boston that looked like something that should be done at a Buffett tailgate, not at an airport. The agent was running his/hers (not sure which) hand down a woman's chest and went right between her boobs. Seems a bit excessive for me.
Mrs. TR has two fake hips now AND a pacemaker. Honest, she's really in good health.... just a bunch of weird crap all at once. Anyway, she get's the pat down at every airport, including the between the boobies becasue of the pacer. One TSA agent told her she enjoys doing the pacemaker pat downs.... we both thought that was strange.

I hope the ONE thing airport security does is keep people watching/being aware of the other passengers on the airplane.
Sounds like my dad; two hip replacements tend to set off the alarms. He carries a letter from his doc plus the couple inch scars on his legs but he still has issues sometimes.
Twenty degrees and the hockey games on...

They have the scanners on half of the CLT gates. I think it is better than the old puffer; that seemed to take forever. They do not make you raise your hands here, but maybe that will change.

As for storing the images, it is not as if someone can make out your face or recognize you. Personally, I believe it is a good training tool to use the images as comparison. You know somewhere there is a Xray picture comparing someone's adult toy to a weapon.

With regards to the lawsuit, I do understand the concept and basis of the suit. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. I did find the statement about the scanner never seeing the passenger a bit odd. Sure they are behind a machine, but all they have to do is look back towards the luggage scanner to see the passenger. You are not that hidden.

So did it take any longer to get through security than it would have prior?
It doesn't slow down security too much longer, because luggage, backpacks, shoes, etc seem to take longer than 20 seconds to go through the scanner.

In the Fort Lauderdale airport in July, we had to take everything out of our pockets (including piece of paper, money, boarding pass etc.)

Security is only one of the hassles of flying nowadays. :pirate:

Next time I fly, I'll just strip down and walk through the checkpoint full-blown NEKKID. That'll teach 'em.
Or as we say in the South, "That'll break 'em from sucking eggs."
Whatever the heck that means.

I'm sorry, Cate, I know this isn't a laughing matter, but you just really hit my funny bone! :o
S'OK, Jen . . . I'm just not easily ruffled by privacy matters as much now . . .
Amen, sistah!
Somehow a measly 20 second full-body scan just can't compete with a bone scan and glow-in-the-dark pee. Just sayin'.

Even if they do store the images somewhere, who the heck is gonna have the time to browse through the millions (and millions and millions) of images produced? Instead of surfing the 'net for free p*rn (I read somewhere that there's a lot of it)?

Dunno, I ready it somewhere, that the scanning would be in another room, which although good for privacy doesn't make much sense to me in terms of communicating with fellow TSA agents.

I read that it was in another room as well, which I think is part of my problem. I have this feeling they may laugh at my fat a$$ and I want to stare them in the face when they do.
