Goin' to Gulf Shores instead of the Smokies

Post by citcat »

We were going on vacation in the Smokies in Sept., but decided to go to Gulf Shores instead. Just a small change, but I figure they could use our (small, pittance, little) vacation money there more. Somebody came back from a vacation in Gatlinburg and said a lot of the people there were ones who had cancelled their Gulf area vacations to go to the mountains. That made me sad, so we just reversed it. Besides, those cheese grits at the Original Oyster House are calling my name. 8)
And the drinks, green-fried tomatoes, and Brent Burns at Lulu's.
And great seafood.

Bon Jovi and Brad Paisley are coming to the beach! We’re excited to announce two more beach concerts that will be held the weekend of October 15-17, the same weekend as Thunder on the Gulf. Take a look here for all the details, and make your plans to attend this amazing weekend jam-packed with fun and excitement.

GULF SHORES, AL – September 1, 2010 – Two of the biggest names in music will use their star power to help bring attention and tourists back to the Alabama Gulf Coast. The two free concerts on the beach are slated for the weekend of October 15th-17th in Gulf Shores, Alabama, with Bon Jovi performing on Friday, October 15th and Brad Paisley performing on Sunday, October 17th. These two shows signify the next installments of Alabama’s “Concerts For The Coast” event series.

The shows, which are FREE to the public, will be ticketed events. Tickets will be available through Gulf Shores and Orange Beach lodging partners starting Wednesday, September 8th. For a list of accommodations offering reservation packages with free tickets, visit gulfshores.com/packages-deals/.

Typical. We and our vacations always have bad timing. Why can't these artists ask us first when to have their concerts ? huh. :-?

I just read about this. Glad to see they are continuing the concerts for the Gulf.

We'll be there Monday, in time to go to Lulu's to hear Brent Burns sing from 5-9 !!!!
Leaving soon .....the hubby said to pack light this time, that maybe we could actually get all our stuff into ONE suitcase.

I just laughed.

The beaches were great.....we saw a stingray (which took a liking to Gary, two days in a row!) and two sharks that came close to shore. But no oil !!! Food was amazing. Had TWO Irish Wakes at McGuire's in Pensacola...won't do that again. *PHEW*

Charlotte: I thought I had your phone number on my cell phone, but I didn't....and we don't have a laptop so I couldn't get a message to you. :x :( I'm sorry we missed you. We realized on this trip that we seriously need a laptop. BADLY. We couldn't look up a couple of places and got lost. We wasted an hour trying to find McGuire's. And there was a tiki bar I wanted to go to but couldn't find it until it was too late. So guess what I'm getting for Christmas, even if I have to buy it for myself somehow....????????????
YEP !

Hmmmmm. Could be.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

there are restaurants all along the beach, and the ICW roads, depends on what you are looking for. I have to say that for things to do: I tend toward sitting on the beach or the deck smoking cigars and sipping rum/tequila, but that is me (and doesn't necessarily mean it's a team sport)

Wow...this thread has been resurrected !!!

Guess what I got for Christmas ? A LAPTOP ! And we DID spend some serious money down there.

You have to eat at The Original Oyster House and get the cheese grits. Seriously, I got such happypants when I tasted them...YUM !! Of course, the rest of the menu is spectacular.
Other good ones:
Mikee's Seafood (for cheap eats, good food)
Tacky Jack's (on the harbor, best view ever)
And if you want to go fancy schmancy one night, try Cafe Gracie. Louisiana Laniappe is also there at San Roc Cay.
Live Bait is a little too expensive for what you get.

And make sure you look up the TropRock artists playing in that area at the time, like Brent Burns, the Calypso Nuts, etc.
