Re: What JB song really 'speaks to you' about your life & dreams
There are so many that mean so much, some because of how they have affected my life and some because of how they tie into my time being a parrothead. But the one that always means the most is:
Be good, and you will be lonesome.
Be lonesome, and you will be free.
Live a lie and you will live to regret it.
That's what living means to me.
Be good, and you will be lonesome.
Be lonesome, and you will be free.
Live a lie and you will live to regret it.
That's what living means to me.
Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

Holy Crap.
To me, this is what it means to be a Parrot Head.
There are so many lyrics, so many songs that apply to my personality and life, I don't know where to begin.
If I had to pick one song, It would be Banana Republics.

Coast of Carolina for two reasons:
1. My favorite summer vacation spot has been the OBX for many years. It's such a great place to hang out, lay on a lounge chair, have a few (or many) boat drinks, and do a whole lotta nothing for a week.
2. "...after one or two false starts, I believe I found my stride..." For me, it's more like 10 or 12 false starts. I spent a lot of time going nowhere fast. Finally found a line of work that I love, graduated from college at the ripe age of 38, decided to give myself a break by realizing everything will not nor has to be perfect in my life so maybe I've finally gained a little bit of wisdom.

Re: What JB song really 'speaks to you' about your life & dreams
I'll raise the "WOW," to a Holy Crap! No way is there just one song. The top of the list for me is from Wino:
Walks down the street, shufflin' his feet,
To the rhythm that only he knows.
Cause I'm livin' on things that excite me,
Be they pastries or lobsters or love;
I'm just tryin' to get by being quiet and shy,
In a world full of pushin' and shove.
It's a strange situation, a wild occupation,
Living my life like a song.
Great song!

To the rhythm that only he knows.
Cause I'm livin' on things that excite me,
Be they pastries or lobsters or love;
I'm just tryin' to get by being quiet and shy,
In a world full of pushin' and shove.
It's a strange situation, a wild occupation,
Living my life like a song.
Great song!
got to stop wishin' got to start fishin'....

Wow bonefish, your comments on CITJ match my feelings perfectly (allthough I would like to find a way to include the wife and kid).
I used to listen to this song when I was younger in the 80/90's and loved it but didn't really understand it. Was listening to it about 6-7 years ago and went "click". At somepoint its time to start listening to your intuition again.

Many will find this hard to believe.....
Im growing older but not up
My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck
Let those winds of time blow over my head
Id rather die while Im livin than live while Im dead

Re: What JB song really 'speaks to you' about your life & dreams
You all picked some good ones. I love One Particular Harbor for the same reasons many have already mentioned. I think we all have that one special harbor that we've fallen in love with during the course of our travels. In addition to One Particular Harbor though, another song that speaks to me is "Wonder Why We Ever Go Home."
Years grow shorter not longer,
The more you've been on your own.
Feelings for moving grow stronger,
So you wonder why you ever go home.
Each time I travel to the Caribbean, or the Gulf, I think about this verse, and how true it is. It gets to the point (for me anyway) where my love of the ocean, the beach, and life that revolves around it becomes so strong, I can't think of a single reason to go home. I don't have any children, and if it wasn't for my husband's refusal to leave his parents, I'm pretty sure I'd just stay there, and live my life by the sea. Each year does seem to become shorter, as the song says, and I want to enjoy them to the fullest.

We left family and moved down to Florida years ago.
Still see family, and can't say we have ever regretted moving closer to the ocean!

Still it’s all a mystery, this place we call the world
Where most live as oysters, while some become pearls."
I fancy myself a pearl.

Believe me, if it was up to me I'd be gone in a flash to Florida or some place similar, near the Gulf. My hubby though ... stubborn, and worried his parents are going to grow older faster and die sooner if he moves away. I don't know. I love my parents, but I only get one life, and I want to be near the beach, darn itz-man wrote:Welcome to BuffettNews!BeautifulSwimmer wrote: Each time I travel to the Caribbean, or the Gulf, I think about this verse, and how true it is.
