I used to listen to this song when I was younger in the 80/90's and loved it but didn't really understand it. Was listening to it about 6-7 years ago and went "click". At somepoint its time to start listening to your intuition again.
I do lot of bonefishing in the Caribbean and always have the "Tales from Margaritaville" cd with me so I can hear that song while I'm in the islands.
Funny how sometimes you go from just 'liking' a song to 'understanding' a song. Music is a pretty amazing medium and Jimmy's music just touches so many of us in different ways.
Roll with the punches
Play all of his hunches
Make the best of whatever came his way
What he lacked in ambition
He made up with intuition
Plowing straight ahead come what may

1. My favorite summer vacation spot has been the OBX for many years. It's such a great place to hang out, lay on a lounge chair, have a few (or many) boat drinks, and do a whole lotta nothing for a week.
2. "...after one or two false starts, I believe I found my stride..." For me, it's more like 10 or 12 false starts. I spent a lot of time going nowhere fast. Finally found a line of work that I love, graduated from college at the ripe age of 38, decided to give myself a break by realizing everything will not nor has to be perfect in my life so maybe I've finally gained a little bit of wisdom.
Just got back on Monday night from an incredible vacation on Folly Beach, SC. Went sailing, power boating, lots of beach time, etc, so I know exactly what you mean. That song speaks to me also as our long (or shorter) term goal is to move from IL to Charleston SC.

When, my grandfather passed away they played an awesome dvd of his life at the wake set to music.
I was thinking that "Barefoot Children" would sum up my life and be a great dvd, nothing too sad for me.....
not that I'd be around to watch though
"It's crazy and it's different, but it's really bein' free"
It was just about a year ago that I "discovered" Jimmy Buffett. And these verses are what made me realize that he is much more than cheeseburgers. I love the sentiment in Happily Ever After.
Take it from me 'cause I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure
When yours it could have been
(Chorus)
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after
Every now and then
Chicago - June 28, 2014 (bringing 2 Buffett virgins!)
Hugs, Kay Life is just a water ballet...
"That says, "It's my job to be worried half to death
And that's the thing people respect in me
It's my job but without it I'd be less
Than what I expect from me"
I love my job!
"Drank a lot a' whiskey
It gives me such a glow
It makes me quite immobile
But it lets my feelin's show"
And I love my whiskey
"That which is around me does not affect my mood; my mood affects that which is around me."
At the risk of sounding angst-ridden when I'm not really, it's the song I took my handle from. Also "Somewhere Over China," as the both of them are a pretty good summary of my life for the past six years or so (and yes, that's a good thing for the most part).
I've traveled all around the world
And there are places that still stand out to me
But nowhere else can quite compare
To my island in the sea
My personal utopia a place to run to
Where I can hide away
Where I can truly reign supreme
somewhere fresh and clean
Where a man can dream
Chorus
I'm king, king of somewhere hot
I'm king like every man should be
I'm king, king of somewhere hot
Where the music in my soul
makes me start to lose control
I could melt right on the spot
I'm king of somewhere hot
Someday I hope to find my queen
I know she'll come my way
I'll give her all my love
It's not a complicated thing
just a place where I can swing
Where a man can be a king
Chorus
I'm king, king of somewhere hot
I'm king like every man should be
I'm king, king of somewhere hot
I don't care how hard you look
you won't find me in the book
I could melt right on the spot
I'm the king of somewhere hot
