The last time I saw him was in '97 or '98 at the Warren County Fair.

If he came through here I would probably go see him again.

I was drunk the day my momma got outta prison, and I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train
And I'll hang around as long you will let me

I saw DAC once back in college in Waco the night before an Aggie/Baylor game a long time ago. Fun concert, great game, lot's of loose Baylor co-eds. Everyone wanted him to play some of his X-Rated stuff. He wouldn't.

He played "You never called me by my name" three times. It was what it was.

I think it's pretty well known that David Allan Coe didn't have a hand in writing You Never Even Called Me By My Name. In his version, he even credits Steve Goodman in the lyrics. It wasn't until reading the liner notes to Steve Goodman's No Big Surprise compilation that I learned John Prine helped write it. If I remember the story correctly, Prine didn't think much of the tune at the time so he was ok with leaving his name off of the songwriting credits. Once it took off and became popular, Steve paid him "royalties" in the form of an old Wurlitzer jukebox.

Coe is one of those folks who I admire as a songwriter but not necessarily as a person because of his overtly racist records. I saw him in concert a couple of times many years ago. The first one was outstanding, the second time he was too drunk to even stand up.

Go. And wear your Parrothead stuff (flowered shirt, etc.).
Then if he plays that song, "Jimmy Buffett don't live in Key West", he won't DARE diss you. !!!

*sniff* I smell a whoopass. Just grab him by his hair.
He is talented but has a problem. He ate supper at a small restaurant in our small town years ago and was a complete azz. But that song is funny.
