Opinions for new washer/dryer!!

Post by springparrot »

HELP!!!!
I know I have posted about this before, but ALOT of things have changed in our lives recently.
We are going to buy a new washer/dryer soon.
Larry is crazy about buying a red set.
Image
Not this set, but he loves the color---I personally don't care what color the set is, as long as it works!

We have always used top loader washers, similar to this
Image

Now, what are your experiences with front loader washers?
I understand if you don't leave the door open between loads, they smell?
Is this true?
Do you have to use special detergent?
Would you suggest buying the pedestals?

What brand/model do you suggest??

THANKS SOOOO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!

I've read several different articles that the front loads would smell if you didn't leave the door open. That being said I know from personal experiences that top loaders will smell to if you don't let them dry out.

We recently got a new washer and we got one of those super high capacity no center pole thingies and we have to use special detergent marked HD or something like that. What used to take me 1 1/2 - 2 loads is now one. I really like it.

Not much help am I?  Don will probably be by later and give better details - or not.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I really can't add anything to what Connie said about our new washer. But I can say that I have heard that the front loaders are very much more efficient then top loaders.

I'm no help, my apartment building has a laundry room so I don't have to worry about buying a washer or a dryer. Or I can go to my father's house and use his washer and dryer for free, cheap ba$tard that I am.

We bought the new Kenmore Elite Front Loaders in White, we have had about 3-4 months and all my girls love them. Wife and 2 daughters that use them when they want to do blankets or very large loads. I just paid for them so I guess they are ok. I am banned from laundry, something about putting red shirts in wash first time with kakahi pants (now Pink)...

I plead the 5th.....

I can cook, take care of the yard, wire almost anything electric, play golf, drink beer, start the dishwasher, even run a vacume every once in a while. Painting and Laundry are not on my things to do list...

Bought a pair of LG front-loaders this spring. They are very handy and easy to use. We do leave the washer door open to dry just to be safe. Even though the pedestals are way over priced you need them. Seems like the washer uses a glass full of water as opposed to bath tub full top loader. They do sell pretty efficient top-loaders now also.

We've had a Frigidaire front loader for over 10 years. Back then Maytag was uber-expensive and the fridg was really expensive, they were the only ones available, yes you use a ton less water, same soap only less, if you don't, you'll get a lot of suds. It also holds a lot more laundry. Clothes seem cleaner too. We will buy a front loader when our current breaks down. The next time we will not purchase the matching dryer, we both believe that we could have had a better dryer at a lower price. (Current has been repaired twice) My only opinion on brands is to avoid LG. As a company I am not a fan, they make knockoffs but are horrid at innovation. I have purchased industrial LG products as well as LG electronics, while they seem to have cool features they generally underperform.
