I must add New Orleans to my "vacations to take" list.......
On most days I say: "Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been...."
Sometimes I can only say: "There is no dumbass vaccine......"

Re: New Orleans...
Houmas House is great and so is Oak Alley. I definitely recommend those.OttoCal wrote:OK, Larry's comments aside... I couldn't stand it anymore and just booked a trip to go back to New Orleans. Not until March, but that was the most sensible time for us to go. Plus, I had a coupon. I'm all about the coupons.
Thinking a Plantation tour this time, anybody like a certain one? Or else maybe we'll just drink. haha.

We've used Louisiana Swamp Tours. Not too ticky-tacky, fun tour, fun guide.ContinentalDrifterIII wrote:This time we were thinking of doing a swamp tour. Anyone have a recommendation?
Some photos etc. in this photo album
http://lisajonneworleanst2008.shutterfly.com/
sorry for the lack of captions, I'm overzealous in some cases and sometimes, there just aren't any. You can tell which are the swamp photos though
And the pics at Abita in the beginning of the album feature one of the best named people we have ever met- brew master Sonny Day. You can't make this stuff up. He was awesome, as was the Abitia tour. Worth the drive up across the lake.

Re: New Orleans...
Where are you staying for jazz fest. I'm thinking of going, like I do every year. I may need to rent a house though and it seems like it would be very pricey. I also may have to rent it early, before the full schedule is announced so I will have to pick which weekend then.Carolinadreamin' wrote:We need to keep this thread going! I haven't been in 20+ years and I just booked both weekends for JazzFest.
If anybody has been to jazz fest before I have a couple of questions.
1. How should I plan a couple days around the fest to do some touristy things? Will we be able to get near the popular places those weeks, like DuMond? Would we have a better chance if we came to town two days before the first weekend?
2. How much money should a person budget for 5 days if three of them are fest for things like food and drink?
3. Are there any places to look for rental houses besides vrbo?
4. I am bringing college aged sons of drinking age who are in love with the show Treme and kind of fascinated with what they think must be the real NO. One is a musician and it's the most important thing for him to hear local stuff. Do I have any chance of them not getting into trouble on their own? Will I be funding a trip for them to get mugged in a bad neighborhood?

I'd love to see this thread continue. I'm headed to NO in February on a girls trip and none of us have been there. What are the MUST DO's?

One of my coworkers is going to NO in a couple of months. I cut and pasted the suggestions in here to give him suggestions for good places to go.
