The fall in Australia was scary and we all are most grateful that JB seemed to bounce back rather quickly. But the present delay in confirming additional 2011 dates and the absence of any "official" word does create doubt and concern for many of us. Me included......
I can see no rational reason why JB or his organization couldn't post something on the M-ville web site about the situation, whatever the reason. If no more dates are planned, fine, say it. If more dates will be confirmed by such and such a date, fine, say it. If they just don't know what the h*ll is going on for 2011, fine, say it.
But to let your loyal fans simply hanging like this is in limbo is not like you, Mr. Buffett......
I was just reading in Rolling Stone last night (which I apparently get now from ordering my Tampa tix via LN/TM) that last year was a tour disaster across the board with many tours cancelled before they started and tickets going fo $10 at the last minute. Apparently LN is in tough shape financially due to the merger along with attendance being down. This may have something to do with the negotiation process that goes with setting up a venue. Just a thought.

There are very few bands who can make money on tour every year. Can anyone name one band or performer, under the age of 40, that could produce annual tour profits? Sure, acts like Taylor Swift are big for the 2011 summer tour (still hasn't sold out Gillette Stadium though) but I doubt she could do it in 2012 - just an example.
In fact as I was typing that - Jimmy Buffett could be the only performer that sells out annually. Chesney didn't tour last year (although he would've sold out ... but still, he didn't tour), Springsteen and Bon Jovi don't tour every year. U2 doesn't. Dave Matthews doesn't. Can anyone name one? Of any age?
Wow . . . people are f*cked when Jimmy retires.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Jimmy did sell out both shows last year is you go on the basis that on the day the tickets went on sale 12 mins later you couldn't get any. But to beat scalpers and other who want to profit more the release tickets every so often giving people the chance to buy at face value (plus tix fees).
I have been lucky in all my years going I have only been shut out once and had to buy from a scalper.
Jimmy Buffett's tour produces a massive profit on an annual basis.
Name one other band that can say that? Keep in mind Chesney, Dave Matthews, U2, Springsteen and others don't tour annually.
I literally can't find one other band or performer that produces annual profits. In fact U2 lost money on their last tour according to Rolling Stone because the stage and production was such a massive cost.

And obviously JB has a huge fan base. I can't think of anyone that I saw 5 years ago, that I would still want to see now. And it is all about making a profit. I would think that even if he didn't completely sell out both shows, that he made some good money. The amount of people that would be disappointed if there was just one show would be huge.

Thursday was far from a sellout....i'm sure others that were there would agree!!!....as for the shows when they go on sale.......i remember being able to pull tickets every day till the show.....except for lawns....as a matter of fact i'm not sure on, if it was last year or the year before...that GW employees were offering people pavilion seats in exchange for there lawn seats.......i guess my take on a sell out is every ticket being sold and every seat filled.

But he still made a massive profit. I am guessing that the money JB made off the thursday show last year (after he paid the band and the roadies and the sound guys and whoever) would be enough for me to live on for the next decade. I mean live well! One show. So I ask once more . . . on an annual basis what band or performer profits on tour? I really can't think of any other. Jimmy Buffett is the only one who does - annually. IS there another?

Well what do you know you have only been to 61 shows =)
In the good ole days where all the tickets were sold on day 1 and that was it now it's a mathmatical formula based on wind and high tides and who bribed the ticketmaster sales agent the most.
I just like being next to other parrotheads who have a real love for Jimmy. While we do get next to some of them, a lot are power drinking kids who have no clue who Jimmy really is who want the parking lot party. (not that that is a bad thing) but these are who get all the lawn seats. And then the older the real parrtoheads get they want the better pavillion seats and if they can't get them the skip the show (my mom, and soem of the people i have gone with over the years since 1990) and say they will try next year cuz they dont want to sit in the new pavillion outside seat if it rains (well Mansfield atleast).
And in response to the band making the most each year on tour. I dont think Jimmy has ever been #1 while he makes a lot of money on his tours he still keeps to his Tues Thurs Sat routine as much as he can while other sell out bands who need the money cuz they spent all theres already play 6 nights a week for a yr and every yr is someone different who does this.
But Jimmy by FAR is the only consistant one who makes a profit every year, who tours each year.

I can't think of a single one at all but I don't follow the music industry as closely as I used to. I don't know how many artists tour with or without a new release. In a 2 hour driving radius, I can think of roughly 7 venues that hold concerts of varying seating amounts. Kenny C. is playing in Foxboro, and is coming up to Portland Maine. JB will only be playing one place in NE. Keeping the tour small, I would imagine, limits overhead no matter how many tickets are sold. Then you also have groups that take a tour international with many country stops. I can't imagine how $$$ that is.

Jimmy often brags in interviews that he has a 1 or 2 truck tour. Meaning the bands who put on outrageous tours who huge stages and lighting: U2, Rolling Stones, etc, spend a ton of money on a 20 or 25 truck tour to get all the equipment from venue to venue. Jimmy has a sheet he hangs up with a Palm Tree on it (well, last year the backdrop was a little more modern) and that is it. Smart. It is about the performance and the band... don't need the flash.

I agree, I haven't gone all these years and I have seen him in FL, NY and mostly MA cuz of the flair. he keeps it small and intimate as much as 24K people can be and knows he doesnt need to do anythgin else because of his loy fan club. As we have been called tha largest fan club following or have ever soemone wants to put it in the world. He puts a CD we all buy it he wortes a book we all buy it he opens a resturant we all eat there. Heck I have all his Albums (Vinyl) hanging on the walls in my mantown we just want what he has to offer (that sounds creepy tho as i wrote it).
For years I would look up what he made on his tours and was always in top 10 with an * saying a part-time schedule. So we all agree he is the Best and I would prob sell my 1st born for a front row seat so he can fall on my lap. =) again kinda creepy

We were at Jones Beach last year when the trucks started to pull in. There were 7 semis, plus a generator trailer, plus the 3 buses. Oh, and Jimmy came later that afternoon in a limo. Not exactly 1 or 2 trucks but still not as extravagent as some.
