Good point! They should just change the name to the Music Hall of Fame.
There are many forms of Rock n roll....punk, grunge, metal, folk, disco, rap, reggae, pop, hip hop....and many others.
LL Cool J is one of Rap's pioneers and very talented. The guy has been around for almost 30 years. Whether you like the genre or not, it doesn't discount his contribution to music.
When I think of Rock and Roll, I think of the following...like them or not: Queen, Kiss, Nickelback, NIN, Elvis, Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles. If I look in my cd collection, I would say Tori Amos, Shania Twain, ZBB, and Annie Lennox aren't rock and roll.

That's the best reason not to put them in.
I love hair metal bands! That was the birth of MTV. Whitesnake, White Lion, CInderella, Lita Ford. The good ole days!
That "music" is some of the worst s*** ever put on vinyl. Your mileage may, and obviously does, vary.

The problem with that is that the definition changes throughout the years. At one time, Pat Boone was considered a rock n roller. But his songs wouldn't be rock n roll today. Well, this album might be -- :D

Crazy, but that's how it goes...

As was I Ellen . . .
She only rarely did television performances.
Jackson Browne's song "That Girl Could Sing" was about her - they had a relationship back in the early 70's when I was in high school.

Music? Let's see, they have (perhaps) a beat box and a scratcher 'playing' distorted cuts of *OTHER PEOPLE'S* songs.
Singing? Outside of the fact that it is mostly in English, it sounds more like the stuff I used to see on National Geographic videos on Africa back in grade school. Drums pounding and a bunch of guys stomping around a fire, gesturing, shaking spears, grunting and chanting. This may have been the forerunner of singing, but we've advanced a heckuva long way from there.
And don't get me started on the violent and misogynistic nature of the lyrics.

This is the time I think of those WHO AREN'T in the hall and probably should be.

I've seen mention of Stevie Ray Vaughn - WITHOUT QUESTION!
E Street Band - WITHOUT QUESTION!

Here's a few others worty in my book:

Nirvana
Rush
Chicago
Moody Blues
Heart
Red Hot Chili Peppers (I think they just recently became eligible)
Bad Company
E.L.O.
Steve Miller Band

Woops forgot 2:

I'd add Steve Goodman to the "should be in the Hall" list as well. City of New Orleans, Banana Republics, and many others PLUS all of the co-writing - especially with Jimmy.

I'd also add The Outlaws

Well, I disagree here. While I don't know what NG videos you saw in grade school, some of the early rap albums I listened to do not, imo, exhibit the traits you mention at the end. I would also argue that the sampling you hear in so much of our much today was not as prevalent in the 70s/80s. I would reference Run-DMC's first album, some of Kurtis Blow's early albums, some stuff by GrandmasterFlash, Herbie Hancock and of course, George Clinton.

I have to respectfully disagree. Folk, Disco, Rap, Reggae, pop and hip hop are not R&R. They are their own music genre. If you're going to include them you should also include Blues, Jazz, C&W and Hillbilly because they definately have influenced R&R and shaped its early beginnings.

Connie.....

You need to drive past the new Buddy Guy's Legends on South Wabash in Chicago..... They have a great giant mural in tile of SRV

Some writer named Judy Berman's take on this year's nominees. I don't know who she is so take it with a grain, or a shaker, of salt.
