Things To Do In Seattle

Post by FunkHouse9 »

Anybody have any "don't miss" stuff to do in Seattle? I'll be near the convention center, reliant on my feet for transportation. Since I'm only going to have limited free time in the late evenings, I'd like to make the best of it.

When are you going to be in town?
How long?

There's tons of stuff to do.

EMP (Experience Music Project) at the Center
A Picasso exhibit at the SAM (Seattle Art Museum)
The Waterfront has tons of stuff
Pioneer Square
Pike Place Market
to name just a few.

While they are thinking of doing away with the free buss zone in the down town area
it's still free for now. That gets you from the Sports Stadium area to the Seattle Center area.

I'm there from this Monday until Saturday. Since I'm there for work, my ability to do much is limited. 90% of my time is committed for work and the other 10% I'm technically on-call. I don't intend to do a whole lot, but if there are things, near the convention center in particular, that I'd kick myself for missing after I get home, I may as well take advantage of it. Who knows when/if I'll get back there.

Go eat at Chandlers on Lake Union if you get a chance. Try to get a water view table and watch the planes take off from the lake. Other than that Don gave you the list I would. Perrhaps some of the other Seattle peeps can chime in later today.

Icalled up my friend LeRoy on the phone
I said, Buddy, I'm afraid to be alone
'Cause I got some weird ideas in my head
About things to do in Seattle when you're dead

I was working on a steak the other day
And I saw Waddy in the Rattlesnake Cafe
Dressed in black, tossing back a shot of rye
Finding things to do in Seattle when you die

You won't need a cab to find a priest
Maybe you should find a place to stay
Some place where they never change the sheets
And you just roll around Seattle all day

LeRoy says there's something you should know
Not everybody has a place to go
And home is just a place to hang your head
And dream of things to do in Seattle when you're dead

You won't need a cab to find a priest
Maybe you should find a place to stay
Some place where they never change the sheets
And you just roll around Seattle all day
You just roll around Seattle all day

I recommend those things Don said. Plus, it may be hard to find, but see if you can get some coffee. I hear it's pretty good out there.

Well as far as kicking yourself if you miss it then I for sure would go with the Picasso exhibit. It's only gonna be in 3 cities then it's back home.

EMP closes at 5:00 everyday and I won't be done even close to 5:00 any day I'm there, so that's out. Picasso is possible only if I wanted to get there at the last possible minute on Thursday or scrap the only other thing I found to do which is on Friday night. We'll see about that one. Window shopping is always an option.

I wonder if they are doing nighttime Underground Seattle tours? It being close to Halloween they could be. I've always thougth that would be really cool!!

edit: They offer the "adult" tour at night!! http://www.undergroundtour.com/underworld/index.html

Ok, you really have made me want to make that trip to see my sister-in-law happen. I've never been to Seattle. Gonna work on next summer...be a great time to be there instead of San Antonio.

Seattle is really freaking AWESOME in the summer!!! Just don't come up here thinking you'll be able to swim in the sound (water is DAMB cold!!). I suggest going on a whale watching tour. The one out of Port Towensend is awesome; PT is where An Officer and A Gentleman was filmed. Starting next April EMP will have a special showinig on Nirvana. The EMP curator was able to go through Krist Novoselic's attic and use some of his personal momentos for the exhibit.

My wife was recently in Seattle for work and she enjoyed Pike's Place and the Space Needle. She also ventured into Vancouver but that sounds out for you. She said the restaurant at the top of the Space Needle was pretty good. She also took a nice ferry ride to Bainbridge Island. She went to a casino there.

I was there, at the convention center two years ago! definitely get to Pikes Place Market--fun, and great people watching. It is a shame you can't get to EMP--we had our conference social there and it really is a fascinating place! But if you are a window shopper, the convention center is near lots of shopping. Enjoy!

EMP is probably the one thing I would really really like to do and it looks like there's no chance. I'd head up the space needle, but I'm scared of heights, so the view from afar will be good enough for me.
