Obsessed???

Are there any other Parrotheads out there that are tired of being called "obsessed" with Jimmy Buffett? My friends think it's funny that I'm always referring to Buffettnews, that I listen to the concerts and take part in the set list, that I know as much about Jimmy as I do, etc.. I have to say that I'm getting more than a little tired of the comments and lack of understanding! At least my family puts up with me!

I get a lot of puzzled looks and most people are pretty surprised about my Buffett obsession.
I'm not exactly a "life of the party" person and most people can't see me as a "parrotthead"
Most of my family and friends have gotten to know my "buffettnews friends" through my conversations about what is happening in your lives. A lot of them are amused and kind of relate it to people who are obsessed with a soap opera and speak about the people on it as if they are real people.
(At least yall ARE real people)
I don't get annoyed, it amuses me to be a mystery to them.

I don't think I'm fanatical anymore but not burned out either. But with all the hundreds of Buffett songs out there, every time one comes on I feel like I just heard it. I just go through phases.
I'm not in a box anymore.
But then again I've been on BN since March of 2000 so maybe I am obsessed

I don't think I'm "obsessed"...I know I do choose to listen to JB's music more often than other artists...especially when I'm in an off mood. And I know that BN and "parrothead" stuff puts a smile on my face. Hubby and keet don't get it but my kid sister and most of my close friends do.
When I was driving the keet to school this week the car in front of us had a parrothead thing around the license plate...I didn't honk or anything but it did bring a smile to my face.

Well, what is "obsessed" anyway? Wearing tropical shirts everywhere? Flip flops in the winter? Pink flamingos all over the front yard? Who's to say?

Anybody that's a music fan has a favorite band or artist so naturally that's going to come out in conversation. How they chose to handle it says more about them than it does you. Years ago when I was working in radio I had an older brother come pick me up from work. On the way home, a local program came on WRDU called
The Midnight Snack. That night's featured artist? R.E.M. Everyone in my family knows I'm a huge R.E.M. fan, especially my brother. His reaction? He refused to allow me to listen to the show. How's that for brotherly love? It cemented my suspicions that he was an a**hole.

I am probably "obsessed" and I don't care what others think of me.

Word. It's more about their perceptions. One of my friends was amazed when she found out I was a big Dead fan...apparently she thought they're all scruffy stoners living in a van down by the river.

That's about the same way I feel, Lime. I love his music but I also love the way he looks at life with a laugh and knows how to help people have a great time. I organized "drinks after work" at an Irish pub last Friday and my boss said, "That's what we love about Tina, she brings a certain 'party atmosphere' to the office!" I love that that's how they feel about me! I guess I just had it last night when one of my biggest PH friends was on the phone with me and I told her that I had worried last week that Jimmy was retiring and the concerts would be done and I got the ol' "You're so obsessed" line from her too! I know people tend to hang out in groups that have a common interest, I think maybe they think it's a little weird that I haven't actually met any of you!!!

But what a good obsession to have.
It's cheaper than golf, hunting, boating, rv-ing.
Safer than race car driving, cliff climbing, stunt planes, robbing banks, knife throwing.
We've got great music, happy fun-loving people with good hearts, palm trees, boat drinks, most excellent tailgating, flipflops, purdy tropical shirts, parties (with a charitable purpose, a lot of the time).

I don't know and I don't care!
Hmmm, an obscure song reference. Nah, that's not obsession...
