The King's Speech
Best Actor Oscar for Colin Firth... he is mesmerizing in this truly engrossing biopic.
Geoffrey Rush is outstanding, too, but after already seeing The Fighter, Christian Bale takes Supporting Actor nod.

We took our son to see Yogi Bear today. He liked it.
We saw the trailer for "Rango" while there. It's on our "to see" list now

The Killer Inside Me (2010)........Casey Affleck has some sick mommy issues in this one. One plus was Jessica Alba.....Wouldn't recommend it though.
Four Rooms.....(1995) I don't know why I never seen this one before. The movie was kinda like four mini movies all taking place in the same hotel. Tarantino's Segment which also had him and Bruce Willis in it, was very Tarantino...ish. I liked it the best.

Re: Last Film Watched?

I didn't really know what to expect from this movie other than I know of a few friends that loved it when it was first released and that it has been very critically acclaimed. You can't always go by the latter but considering just how much I enjoyed Gran Torino, I went for it. I wasn't prepared at all for the ending which I why I try not to read too much about movies prior to seeing them. This is definitely one of Clint's finest works. The guy comes by his ability to direct movies very honestly and Million Dollar Baby is a very fine example.
Re: Last Film Watched?
Bought that movie and could never bring myself to finish watching it. Maybe I can distance myself enough to finally do that one day, since so many people have raved about it.
Tonight I am watching The Secret Garden. I don't know how many times I've watched that one. Love watching my favorite movies over and over.

Absolutely could not agree more! I first saw him in Empire of the Sun, back in the 80s, he was only like 13 yrs old, I think, but very impressive. He's pretty dang awesome in my book.popcornjack wrote:don't care if he's martian. he's fantasticsonofabeach wrote:actually English but maybe he's American now?popcornjack wrote:"The Fighter"
AWESOME.
Christian Bale is ( imho ) the best American actor out there.

Re: Last Film Watched?

Despite all the favorable reviews I'd read beforehand, my opinion would be nearly the exact opposite. There were a few funny moments but not enough to redeem it. Pretty horrible from start to finish.

Kicking off Buffett's leg Down Under with a small Peter Weir Retrospective:

"The Last Wave"
"Dead Poets Society"

Made it to see True Grit the other day. Thought it was pretty good. Have not seen the original but added it to my Netflix queue.

Watched Dinner for Schmucks today. Thought there were some funny times but couldn't recommend it unless you are a fan of silly movies. I do like silly movies but don't think a lot of people would enjoy this one.

Definitely one of the best comedies I've seen in recent years. It was both funny and poignant which is very hard combination to pull off, especially these days where so many comedies feel the need to continuously hit you over the head with toilet humor. I have nothing against a little of that but an entire movie of it? No. It's obvious a lot more thought went into this movie.

I enjoyed the HELL out of this movie too
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

Lost In Translation will probably remain my favorite Wes Anderson film but I enjoyed this one more than I expected to. Even if the story itself doesn't initially draw you in, as usual, the beautiful cinematography will. It's so visually stunning I let the film roll until the very end.

Re: Last Film Watched?

I had no idea going in that it was some kind of kid's movie. I was going by the recommendation of a friend. What I didn't take into account is that he's a grown man that still buys comic books (not that there's anything the matter with that). Just to be sure I'd read a few customer reviews at Amazon first but the age of the reviewers aren't listed. I have no way of knowing but I'm guessing most of the reviews were written by teens. I stuck with it until the end and it wasn't bad, I just feel like it's something I would have enjoyed much more when I was younger.

I enjoyed it a lot. Did a good job tying in the old movie, and special effects were fantastic.
