Definitely one of the best comedies I've seen in recent years. It was both funny and poignant which is very hard combination to pull off, especially these days where so many comedies feel the need to continuously hit you over the head with toilet humor. I have nothing against a little of that but an entire movie of it? No. It's obvious a lot more thought went into this movie.

Re: Last Film Watched?

Though very gruesome and violent, I enjoyed this movie very much but I was very disappointed by how the ending leaves the viewer hanging. I immediately watched the bonus features searching for clues and finally came to understand why it needed to end that way. Unlike Donnie Darko (which also had a puzzling ending) I would like to see this one again to try to piece things together.

I rented this one mainly because it was directed by Michel Gondry, the same person behind one of my very favorite films, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind but this wasn't nearly as good. I got the part about dreams and reality mixing but beyond that there didn't really seem to be any sort of discernable plot. Maybe that was a point he meant to get across as well but halfway through the movie I just wanted it to be over.
Re: Last Film Watched?
Last movies I watched were on HBO Encores:
Songcatcher...VERY good story
Cool Runnings...well, y'all know how great John Candy is and WHAT a story.
ALSO: TRUE GRIT IS A GREAT MOVIE It was a bit too graphically explicit for me and I had to hide my eyes several times. Such as...It was so hard watching the horse being ridden to death. But I understand the screenwriter made it as close to the original book as possible.
I did love all the music...Learning on the Everlasting Arms sung by Iris Dement was especially great at the ending.

Re: Last Film Watched?
I watched this one a couple months ago. While it was just a bit too much for me, it was interesting and worth seeing once. Part of me wanted to watch it again, but I don't think I could sit through it a second time. Kinda like how I felt about Law Abiding Citizen. I thought it had a good story to it, but the violence and the few graphic scenes kept me from seeing it again.Tiki Torches wrote:

I watched "The American" with George Clooney. I can highly recommend this slow paced drama/thriller. Good story, beautifull scenery (located in Italy) and good acting.
Pls excuse my Eurotrash accent

I loved it as well, though I think it kind of got lost in all of the similar movies that were made in the wake of O Brother, Where Art Thou?'s success.conched wrote:Songcatcher...VERY good story

It was definitely a very violent movie and was very intense to watch. As was mentioned in the bonus features it also had a bit of a horror movie feel with the Anton Chigurh character having a very lumbering presence throughout the film very much like the original B & W Frankenstein movies. In fact, the movie watching experience was so riveting to me that I didn't really want to watch another movie afterwards but since they were both due back at Blockbuster I had to squeeze 'em both in.VanillaGrl wrote:I watched this one a couple months ago. Out of all the movies I've rented recently this one is by far my favorite. It reminded me a bit of Little Miss Sunshine as far as it's indie film on a mainstream level feel. I also loved the soundtrack, which oddly enough, I heard long before I ever actually saw the movie.

Dinner for Schmucks.

Re: Last Film Watched?

I fell asleep within the first five minutes. While perhaps it's a bit ironic that I nodded off so soon, when I awoke I was still able to follow the film. Still, it's probably one of those movies that'll be worth watching again someday, I'm just in no hurry to do so right away.

Julie & Julia again!! That movie makes me laugh so hard. So many touching moments too.
I also watched some of A Trip To Bountiful on youtube. Feel the need to see that one again as I had a very touching family weekend.

I enjoyed it but it just didn't live up to all the hype. Then again, most of those kind of films never do.BahamaBreeze wrote:I am one of the few who just didn"t get excited over this dream inside a dream inside a dream....Tiki Torches wrote:

yeah Inception was boring imo.
I saw "Dinner For Shmucks" last night and enjoyed it.
I also saw "The Kids Are Allright" and liked it as well.

Re: Last Film Watched?

Loved this one very much. I haven't seen a lot of the Coen brothers movies over the years but the ones I have seen, I've enjoyed very much. This one is no exception. Going to follow it up tonight with a look back at the first version starring John Wayne and Glen Campbell just for comparison's sake. It's been eons since I've last seen it.
