Had I known beforehand that this was shot from the perspective of someone filming using a camcorder I probably wouldn't have rented it. That said, I did enjoy it and the camcorder aspect added a certain realism to the the movie that couldn't have been achieved otherwise.

Did it have the same effect as The Blair Witch Project? I haven't seen Cloverfield and the camcorder thing was the main deterrent for me. Shaky home movies make me ill and I remember going to the theater for Blair Witch and people were actually getting sick in the bathrooms from the effect it had on their motion sickness. I even had to shut my eyes through most of the movie.

I can't say as I've never seen The Blair Witch Project. I'd have to say that Cloverfield was the first movie I've ever seen that's been filmed entirely in that manner.

Watched this one last night:

I didn't go into this with my expectations too high especially since I don't recall being all that blown away by the original but I ended up being very pleasantly surprised by it. I think a lot of it was just plain 80s nostalgia and the escapism factor. The special effects and Jeff Bridges in full on Zen mode probably helped play into it a great deal as well.

I normally have a very low tolerance for all things Ashton Kutcher but I actually enjoyed him in this movie. There's nothing too deep here but that's exactly what I was hoping for. It was a little slow moving at first but once the action picked up it was non-stop for most of the remainder of the movie. It's mostly all fluff but that's quite alright, it worked especially well for this movie.

Kutcher's on my list of people I think I'd really kill if I could get away with it. He's still well below Chris Kattan and Miriah Carey though... [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

If you're anything like me you'll find yourself far too distracted by Katherine Heigl to be disturbed by Ashton Kutcher.

I did too. It could, at any moment, have descended into cheesiness but it never did.
