I'm having a hard time getting excited about hockey and the only factor influencing my Super Bowl interest is my extreme hatred of the Ravens, so I've begun counting down to Opening Day.

Last night I finally watched Trouble With The Curve. I loved it, but found that Clint Eastwood just seems to growl through every line.
I knew this girl made of memories and phrases, who lived her whole life in both chapters and stages.
Danced 'til the dawn, wished all her worries away.

She's a long way from a West Nashville grand ballroom gown.

in the last 2 days I've seen The Hobbit, Dredd, Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Dog Days), True Grit & Django Unchained (3rd time).

But the last movie I watched was "War of the Arrows"

If you're into Asian samarai type movies like Hero, 13 Assasins, ect, then this one is for you. Excellent!

Safety Not Guaranteed. It was a cute indie comedy about three magazine employees who follow a man after he posts an ad looking for a partner to travel back in time with him.

I laughed enough and it was original by today's remake standards.

A friend of mine wrote a very moving review of this movie a month or so ago which is what first brought it to my attention. I did a little research into it as far as watching a trailer but not anymore than that as to not reveal the entire movie. Even after I finished watching it last night I was skeptical, figuring it was some sort of hoax since it seemed so far fetched. It's not. I can't recommend this movie highly enough, it's guaranteed to blow your mind and that's an understatement.

Finally got around to watching the horror film V/H/S. It's collection of short stories shot in "found footage" style.

Not bad, not great. A couple of stories had potential to be great, but fell a little short. It was good to watch once.

Aside from a short film of the same name that inspired this version, this is Wes Anderson's first foray into filmmaking. Yes, it shows but it's also cool to watch as several of what would soon become his trademarks (the quirky characters, the unique use of color) are at work here. If you're looking for non-stop explosions and other hallmarks of blockbuster type films you won't find any of that here. However, if you are patient and allow the subtle nature of the comedy to take hold, you will laugh your a$$ off.

Documentary of Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters' cross country trip to the World's Fair in 1964 that was compiled from over 30 hours of footage with a few very well done recreations to help string it all together. I haven't read The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test but I do agree with some reviewers that this movie is more of a supplement to that story than the be all and end all of it. Still, I found it very enjoyable to watch actual footage of their journey. Context of the times is provided by archival footage of current events. It's also not all about the trip. The prologue goes more into the acid tests that followed and into Kesey's personal life in Oregon. Definitely a historical document well worth watching especially if you're interested in the time period in which the beatniks and hippiedom intersected.

I watched it as part of Netflix' streaming service but it's also for sale on DVD. It was released by Magnolia Pictures. I guess you could consider them an indie or at least a niche film company. According to the "About" section on their website they're an arm of the Wagner/Cuban Companies. Another movie they recently had a hand in was Kevin MacDonald's Marley documentary.

Taken 2. It was good but not near the modern day classic that the first one is.

Yesterday we saw Olympus Has Fallen.
Wow! Great popcorn flick...and very brutal. Didnt realize it was rated R.
Lots of carnage.

We watched Skyfall last night and I did not like it.
It was slow moving and the action scenes were even not that great.
The best of the Daniel Craig Bond flick is Casino Royale imo.

We saw the new G.I. Joe in 3D tonight. It's was pretty good.
Seeing it in 3D was not really necessary but I mixed up the times for the 2D and 3D versions.

Since I'm on my own this weekend, I watched (actually, re-watched) some stuff I don't get to normally watch when Hubby is around.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
Terminator Salvation
Die Hard with a Vengeance
Con Air (I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've seen this one)
The Fighter

The Fabulous Baker Boys and the Fisher King.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!
