Post by 3PARROTHEADS »

Back from Las Vegas for 2 weeks, just been off line. Fantastic trip, first J B concert was awesome. Like that street party, wife and I both got the buzz on early, meet some cool people. d*m - I should have done this stuff 10 years ago. Is there a street party before every J B concert?? Also what would be the the best show to tailgate at?? Hope to go to show # 2 next year... Thanks

In recent years, in Vegas, there has been the street party. Prior to this year he did back to back Saturdays in Vegas and there was a street party on both days. Though in Vegas there are other things going on as well.....Friday was the Last Man Standing party and Nadira and several of the coral reefers had a show at M'ville. There were post parties and several Pre-pre-pre party functions.....

Years ago, the MGM had a pre-party in their back lot (it used to be a sort of amusment park area)....when MGM started to develop the property the pre-party moved to their poolside and then the street party started......nowadays MGM doesn't do a pre-party any more.....

As far as best tailgate????? depends on where you are and how far you are willing to travel....Irvine is supposed to be a great tailgate....San Diego has been fun in the past.....I hear Alpine is pretty awesome.....there are a lot of folks here that think Frisco is great.......I've been to the one in Tampa.....And Nissan.....I think anywhere you go you will have fun....!!!

I've only been to one concert at Alpine — August 2009 — and the tailgate was so-so....but that was more due to the weather than anything. It had rained the night before; the day of the show it was still cloudy with more rain forecast. Temps never got above 60° with a strong wind out of the NW, and sure enough, about a half-hour before Jimmy took the stage for the opening number it did start to mist. I still feel sorry for the people on the lawn.

However, there were not just one but TWO great pre-concert parties on the Friday night before the show. Three bands including the "Boat Drunks" (who were joined by Nadirah, Doyle, and Mr. Utley) were playing at the Two Seasons Bowl in Elkhorn, WI (about ten miles from Alpine), and over in Lake Geneva Hemingways Port of Call hosted the Parrothead Ball featuring "South of Disorder" and the "Beach Bums" sharing the stage. It was hard to decide which one to take in, so I ended up spending some time at both!

Words of wisdom: Any tailgate is better than no tailgate at all......... :pirate:

I would like to see JB in Vegas because (1) I've never been to Vegas and (2) my wife and I saw him in Atlantic City, NJ in 2009 and had a blast. Yes, the tailgating at AC (and Vegas, too, I'm sure) is not like "normal" tailgating in a stadium setting.

But, roaming among the various "beach party tailgates" by each of the casinos (yes, most had a cover charge) and watching the Boardwalk fill up with PH in flowered shirts as the day progressed was great fun....we're hoping JB returns to AC in 2011 [smilie=coolup.gif]
