Ok experienced BNers, we are looking at flying into Miami and taking a rental car down. Is this a bad idea? I know Miami is a busy airport because we have been through their a couple times.

We fly into Ft Lauderdale. The Miami airport is way to busy for me.

The drive can be one of the best parts, lots of cool stops to make along the way! FLL is the way to go.

We're flying into Ft. Lauderdale and spending the weekend in Key Largo before getting into Key West on Monday for Halloween. We've decided to get the rental car one way and fly out of Key West on the way home. Marilyn looked at the price of a rental car on the way back and the hotel we'd need to be close to the airport the night before our flight, and it actually works out to be the same price as enjoying an extra day in KW and flying home from there.

Thank you! Now waiting for Jet Blue to release flights for the dates. We usually get a good deal flying into Ft. Lauderdale. Looked at fares from NJ directly into KW and the prices are crazy and the times aren't great either.

I second (third? Fourth??) this.

Also, from FLL you can get on Florida's Turnpike and totally miss Miami. The traffic does slow down in a couple of places at rush hour, but it still isn't too bad. There are tolls - $4 total, booths about every ten miles once you're on the 'pike. But it's worth it.

And the last time I comparison-shopped, it was slightly cheaper for me to fly into FLL than MIA.
