Unfortunately alcohol doesn't do much for most people's manners - especially if their manners are iffy in the first place. Most of the incidents I heard about involved some serious over serving. Just like any concert, some people are just there for the party. And, then again, some people are just jerks.
I felt bad for the two people I saw carried out by the EMT's one of them clearly older than average - the heat and the crowd was just too much for some.

This was my first MOTM and I have to say overall it was a blast. I got to see BNers that I rarely, if ever, would see otherwise (and no matter how any other group acted, our Buffett News crew is Awesome with a capital "A"). I also got to experience my favorite trop rockers up close and personal. And I got to hear some bands that I probably wouldn't normally have discovered.
There were a few "moments" I observered that were mostly alcohol related. Although, at the Street Fest things got pretty claustrophobic. I think having the merchandise tents so close to the stage (blocking out a ton of people's view) was an oversight. I stood in front of Margaritaville and could see and hear enough to make it worthwhile (hell it was better than being on the lawn at GW).
All-in-all I think the experience was what you made of it. I went in expecting there to be some less than cordial people. You can't expect everyone to be as happy and fun-loving as we are. I can't wail til next year!

It's funny... there were people I was looking for that I never found. And then there were people I saw everytime I turned around. Next time we need to schedule a time and date to ALL meet up. Sort of an unofficial PHC.ScarletB wrote:BeachBumJim wrote:wel...rizzafrazzin phone battery died on me Saturday.RinglingRingling wrote:well, if you were not so elusive..BeachBumJim wrote:Two words.
Effin awesome.
Met Carolinadreamin. The ONLY BNer that introduced themselves to me.
Met some locals that were very cool.
Happy Buffett day!![]()
Had our group run into you as identifiable (name tag etc) I'm sure we'd have said Hi and introduced ourselves. Sadly, it's impossible to meet everyone - the downside of such a big crowd.

Its obvious some of you want to turn this into an attack or something, but that is clearly not the case. Its about simple respect, and common courtesy, something that many did not show all weekend. I didn't single anyone out, just gave my opinion of my weekend. I did say I had fun, but there were definitely some personality clashes. I met many "liberals" there that I had a great time with, I wasn't trying to turn it into a "north/south" thing.

I realize that Jimmy's fanbase is largely liberal, and perhaps it was that mindset of "Even if it's not mine, I'm going to take it anyway." If this isn't singling anyone out I don't know what is - no it wasn't specific to a person, just to anyone with that point of view. And the whole "Being from the south I'm used to hospitality" etc. You could have expressed your displeasure in many other ways as other people who posted did. You assumed character traits based on political affiliation - I'm so glad you liked some of the "liberals" did you ask them what their politics were ahead of time? How would you even know?? Good for you that you can tell someones values by meeting them in a big noisy crowd. I don't want to argue about this but sometimes a post just really ticks me off and my better judgement to ignore it loses out.

The whole "buffetty"/"non-Buffetty" thing bothers me. Why do people assume that because someone is a Buffett fan they can't also be an a-hole? Nobody waves a wand over our heads and makes us nice people because we're fans. If a person is an a-hole, they're an a-hole, it doesn't matter what musician they're a fan of. Or what part of the country they're from or what their politics are. Sheesh

Last year Streetfest wasn't packed at all...you could move freely..and there were no chairs set up early....this year it was packed...not only did you have approx 3500 registered people there ........ you have a whole Island full of other visiting and locals....i think the attendance there was at least double.....we actually had no problem getting a spot to the right of the stage. If Jimmy didn't show . there would of been a riot then........my opinion, and mine only is i think he should of played the Casa Only....we paid the fee, and should of saw him in a Private setting.....a lot of people, and i knew a few, paid the fee to see him at the Casa. Also without the Jimmy rumors , i don't think 3500 people are there. It was great, and it was a awesome experience seeing him in KW.
ps.....i'm glad he wasn't at the Casa, after the fact...seeing the Coral Reefers, being themselves, and showing there personalities a little, was great to see.

Larry................I was using the word un-Buffetty as a noun.
Synonyms would include:
compassion, cordiality, courtesy, forgivingness, friendliness, generosity, geniality, gentleness, goodness, goodwill, good will, grace, graciousness, humanity, kindliness, perceptiveness, philanthropy, sensibility, sensitiveness, sensitivity, service, softheartedness, sweetness, sympathy, tenderheartedness, tolerance, warmth
You don't need to be a Buffett fan to be Buffetty. And you don't need to be Buffetty to be a Buffett fan. But Parrothead clubs raise thousands of dollars and give thousands of man hours.......for the good of others. I would like to think that we are more than just Jimmy Buffett fans.
We see a-holes in all walks of life.......even at MOTM. But no matter where I see them, I can't help but be a little amazed and sad and think we should, at least try, every day not to sink that low.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Some of you don't need a stick to stir the pot.
You spent a lot of time in the post complaining; you insult people (inadvertantly perhaps, ignorantly possibly), and now you are backpedalling. If anyone should consider "pot-stirring", you might have been better just stepping back and considering your approach so that next time, you don't wedge your foot so deep. (Tho, if you are Rex Ryan, I hear that is a fetish of yours).

(Nothing p*** me off more than - I reply and the computer freezes and I have to re-boot)
Here is my $.02
I had a fantastic time, my first time to MOTM, not my last!
I have met some, that I could not believe their actions/words. Then there are those that I have only known by words and am sure that our friendship will grow more.
The Street Fest - I have no idea where all these fights were up front, since I was up in the middle of it all. I did see two women (50+) be escorted out by Blue for being asses and pushing. But that is it. I may have not seen anything else, because I did not dwell on it.
I was pushed around and stood my ground. Not my fault that you did not get there early enough. It was not the responsibility of PHs Security squad to keep the crowds off the sidewalk - it was Blue of KW. Did they expect all of this? Maybe not. Lesson learned.
As for the chairs - hey if you were smart enough, well there you go.
Casa - would have been a great place to see Jimmy, but he was not there, he was out for everyone to enjoy. I did not stick around for the Reefers, I was tired - being there all day was enough for me. Steve the cabana boy was great!
Would I do it again? Yes. Will I go next year? Yes.
I'm thankful for those that I have met. There are those that are full of the moment and there are those that take it in strides.
Friendships were strengthened and those that did not materialized. But one thing is for sure: Last week is just a memory with the bad parts removed. No reason to dwell, just reason to go on.
If you did not have a good time, that sucks - but talking about it will not give you anything good in return.

Take it any way you want it. Its obvious some of stand on opposite sides of the fence. I had no problem with that, but I cannot explain the mentaility and reasoning for their actions. I guess better words would be, they have that "I'm someone special attidue". I wasn't back-pedaling. My feet don't go in that direction!RinglingRingling wrote:that sounds amazingly like "hell, some of my best friends are (Asian/Jewish/insert minority here in an attempt to sound like plain folks) ...".Parrothead_317 wrote:Its obvious some of you want to turn this into an attack or something, but that is clearly not the case. and short of polling, psychoanalysis, and observation of both the events of that day and their life in general, you probably never could have. Yet your first assessment was they weren't southern, and they had to be liberal. And that is where the problem started.Parrothead_317 wrote:Take it any way you want it.
