Jen, you have said so eloquently what I feel in my heart. I am among the lucky survivors who know that Elizabeth did not lose.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Sail on, Elizabeth. We could not have asked for a better role model in the graceful facing of adversity.
This evening I have seen mentioned in various news outlets that Elizabeth Edwards lost her fight with cancer and I find I must disagree. Her body was defeated, yes. But the essence of the person who is Elizabeth Edwards beat back the cancer and was victorious in spirit, if not in the flesh. In my belief system (your mileage may vary, certainly) Elizabeth Edwards has merely gone on ahead of us and we will see her again.
My prayers go out to her family, especially her children.
I'm really glad to see you ladies address this. I sat in front of the key board way too long trying how to ask the question how others view the vocabulary of "winning and losing" battles with disease. It's hard becasue you don't want to offend anyone, especially if they are in the midst of something like this. I bet not to many people can name the winner of the Super Bowl from 10 years ago, but I do know that in 10 years when Elizabeth Edward's name comes up in coversation people will have no trouble remembering her. Prayers of grace and comfort for her children, family and friends.tikitatas wrote:Jen, you have said so eloquently what I feel in my heart. She had surgery yesterday, hopefully they got it all. After about 4 weeks of recovery she'll start radiation therapy . . . 5 days a week for 6 weeks. She's an RN so at least she doesn't have to make a special trip every day; she works on the 5th floor of the medical center and the radiation lab is in the basement. She's in great shape and she's a fighter, so I'm confident that she'll see 99 just like her grandma did (and her mother probably will!) If you have any extra phinpower . . . .
I'm so sorry to hear of your wife's diagnosis. Tons of phin power headed a little ways north tonight.SeattleParrotHead wrote:Wow! This really hits close to home! Mrs SPH was diagnosed on 10/29/10 - she almost made it out of Breast Cancer Awareness Month . . .

I'm sorry to hear this but will be praying for a full recovery for your wife. I hope she'll be a long-term survivor and this fight will become a distant memory. In the meantime, we'll pray while she goes through treatment.SeattleParrotHead wrote:Wow! This really hits close to home! Amen. Thanks, Paige.pbans wrote:I've always had a problem with the terminology of "losing" a battle with cancer.....
MOST of the people I know that have had cancer, whether they survived or not, faced it with courage, conviction and dignity. There is NO loss in there anywhere.
Ms. Edwards in no way, shape or form LOST a battle against cancer.
I am reminded again, of this.....it was given to me when my Mom "lost" her battle to cancer....
Green Mtn phin power to you and Mrs SPH - sounds like you make a great team and that will make all the difference!SeattleParrotHead wrote:Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. I'm sure that she's going to be just fine. Like I said, she's an RN and so she knows way too much about what's going on, but she too is thinking positive. They caught it early, she's young (sorta . . 56) and very healthy in every other way, and has some of the best care available, so she's gonna beat this beast!
