Flying out of Philly tomorrow am
I am supposed to go to Chicago for a three day family visit. Our original flight was tomorrow at 7:30 am which was canceled last night. I am tentatively on a flight tomorrow at 10:30 am. I am in south jersey around a two hour ride from the airport on a good day. I may need to leave at 4:30 am to get there or at 4:00 am I could go to Atlantic city and do the train to get there.
Most fights have been canceled for the day and they're starting to cancel for tomorrow. We absolutely have to be back on Thursday as my son's band has an important NYE show. Have you ever been to the airport on the day after a big storm? What might it be like? If I am booked on a flight might I still get bumped? If I have to leave at 5am might I still not know if my 10:30 flight is canceled? If it is likely that we will spend a day in the airport I'm not sure I want to go. I could go in the spring. Right now they will refund my tickets or give me a voucher for a later date if I want. Thanks if you have any thoughts.

take the $$, call and advise the Family that you will
have to reschedule.. any major Airport is a cluster
after any delay let alone after a holiday major weather delay
I was traveling alone this year and could not get home
from Denver (less than 1 1/2 flight) for 36 hours after
I was supposed to be home.. that was in May..

What Airport are you flying into Midway(MDW) or O'Hare(ORD)????
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

Philly is going to be a mess...if you are going, I would take the train from AC to the airport. The snow emergency will still be in effect in Philly until 2pm.....

Re: Flying out of Philly tomorrow am
flying into ohare. Not at all worried about Chicago. They could have twice this much snow and it would not be a problem the next morning. Philly however, is going to be a nightmare. All of these people jammed up after a holiday. Over 400 canceled flights. My family will be upset which is p*** me off. Do they really want me to drive these roads into philly. If I do go I will take the train from ac to 30th street, then I'll take the airport shuttle. When I called they said all flights are on for the am after 9:30, now. However, she said it could change at any moment. In order to do the train I'd probably have to grab a five am out of ac. Right now I'll get a refund if i cancel. If I go up there they could in theory keep rescheduling or bumping me for a full day and because they are offering me alternatives and I am there I may not be able to say this is too much and get a refund.
If I am now scheduled for a 10:30 am flight and it doesn't get canceled can I get bumped still because of other people who were canceled yesterday? My original flight was for 7:30 tomorrow so would the people who were canceled yesterday get preference and all have to be flown out first?

Good luck. Weather is supposed to be shitty on the east coast tomorrow.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Re: Flying out of Philly tomorrow am
Sorry about the family's response, but good grief. You can't control the weather, and if they cancel a nationally televised football game, everything is gonna be screwed up. Get your refund, and reschedule another time.

Re: Flying out of Philly tomorrow am
With the holiday mess and Philly inability to cope with snow flurries, I would take the refund and travel at a different time. If you decide to attempt the 10:30 flight. Print your ticket/boarding pass now. I doubt that 10:30 flight will leave on time unless your plane is currently sitting at the gate. Mayor Nutjob declared a snow emergency for Philly so there is already a built in excuse for the incompetence that will surely occur tomorrow.

Re: Flying out of Philly tomorrow am
yep and the snow emergency means that I can't drive to the airport even if I want to. Can't believe they canceled that game. Would they have lost a bunch of money if no fans could get to the game? Is that why? Family is upset because they know I really don't like flying and didn't want to go to Chicago in the winter. I was going kicking and screaming but now it looks like I have an excuse. But it is what it is. I'm going to try and get my college son to the train if he wants to go. He lives in philly right near 30th street station. If he can't fly out he won't be trapped in the city. That's if we head out to the train station and the main roads are passable.

The announcers said it was a safety concern for fans getting to AND from the game.OceanCityGirl wrote:Can't believe they canceled that game. Would they have lost a bunch of money if no fans could get to the game? Is that why?

Re: Flying out of Philly tomorrow am
I know. I guess I figured when it's that bad they play to empty stands. The trains and busses are running also. I get that somebody might get hurt. I just know that many cities have much more snow and don't cancel games. If I had tickets I'd probably be thrilled they canceled. Now I can still go to the game.SMLCHNG wrote:The announcers said it was a safety concern for fans getting to AND from the game.OceanCityGirl wrote:Can't believe they canceled that game. I lucked out because all Amtrak trains were canceled from 3 PM on.

The atlantic city line is still running. It's the only one. But its running on a revised weekend schedule and they are warning there will be delays.aeroparrot wrote:I lucked out because all Amtrak trains were canceled from 3 PM on.

Take the $$ and reschedule. It's not worth the risk and hassle...you won't enjoy yourself. Plus, even if Chicago isn't affected by weather, the airports WILL be affected by weather at the other hubs. Trust me, there will be delays there too.

Re: Flying out of Philly tomorrow am
I getting into this a bit late but you could take the train or drive to Harrisburg PA....plenty of flights out...a dusting of snow in the Harrisburg area at best. We're about 30 miles east and only had 2 inches.
If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane ...
