The piano man and husband David Furnish have become parents to a 7-pound, 15-ounce baby boy born on Christmas Day. The news was first reported Monday night by USMagazine.com and confirmed to The Associated Press by John's Los Angeles-based publicist.
Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born in California via a surrogate, whose identity is being protected by the new parents.
What a wonderful way to spend the holidays!
Congrats to the new family!!!

I'm happy for them and wish them well. But at Elton's age I wish they had adopted an older child. I know they have the money for the child to be well cared for but still the age is there.

Elton's a couple of years younger than Jimmy? I wouldn't have guessed that.

"Piano Man To Diaper Man"
See? I read that with *diaper* used as verb, and thought, "This is news?"

When his kid gets his drivers license, Sir (or maybe Madam) Elton will be 78.
That should finish him off...

How would having that knowledge make any difference? Is it that the child will be raised by homosexual parents that bothers folks or that Elton is 62? If it's the age thing that bothers people, this fellow just fathered a child at age 94. How long he lives is immaterial, it's the fact that he and his wife are happy that's most important.phjrsaunt wrote:So...ummmm....which parent actually "fathered" the child????

Re: Piano Man To Diaper Man: Elton John A Dad
I disagree. I do think in the case of a child age does matter. A child needs parents to raise them until they are an independent adult. I know there are no guarantees. A seventeen year old father might not live to be 20 but 62? Now the money does help alot here. I'm assuming EJ and his partner are smart enough to have younger people in their lives who will be very close to the child and can step in if necessary and they will provide financially for the boy no matter what so that helps. I wish them well. It's already done. I hope they make good parents but I would still have reservations. If his partner was a bit younger like 35 I'd be less concerned.Tiki Torches wrote:How would having that knowledge make any difference? The same one that would've never integrated schools, or given women suffrage rights.
I say CHEERS to ELTON and DAVID!
That's gonna be one fortunate child, and a lucky one to have parents who will likely take the very best care of him.
Good thing we live in a country that promotes freedom over self-righteousness.

Re: Piano Man To Diaper Man: Elton John A Dad
What OCG said! I'm an "old" father in that I'm 60 and my youngest 'keet is 17.... I might be a better father now that I would have been at a younger age (more mature, more established, better income, better lifestyle, etc.) but I sure don't have as many years left for her as I would have if I'd started 20 years earlier! Granted, that 94 y.o. is in a different place (and time) but there's no way's going to see his son make to his teenage years, let alone adulthood or fatherhood, or . . . . I suppose Elton can hire someone to go outside and play ball with his son, but that's not what being a father is all about.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but sometimes they have really good ideas....

Re: Piano Man To Diaper Man: Elton John A Dad
Yep that's what I'm saying. I'm sure Elton wouldn't have been a good parent 20 years ago. His lifestyle was too self destructive. And your youngest is 17. It would have been more doable if they adopted a ten year old, even with the challenges. I could in theory still have a child. I can't imagine doing it. I don't think there are age boundaries on almost anything out there. Take up bungy jumping, run a marathon, sail around the world. But if you have a child you are involving somebody else. In nature it would be tough for a 47 yo and a 62 yo to conceive naturally, but it is doable. The 94yo with the 50yo wife is just crazy. If it happened naturally it's just meant to be. But they don't have all the financial resources EJ has and I wish it wasn't so but really money makes many things in life easier.SeattleParrotHead wrote:What OCG said! You know 10 years ago I would have struggled with the "non-traditional" parent thing...I've grown alot and believe families come in many different varieties. With that said...sorry...I do struggle with the age thing however!
