Re: Weddings..
I still hear it but not as much.
Most ministers work with the bride and groom to make the ceremony very
personal to the couple.
The Catholic Church is a little more strict with the wording. In a Catholic ceremony you
won't usually hear 'Who Gives This bride?' either. It's not in the rites, and most won't add it either.
I've done weddings for over 20 years and I could go on and on about the things i've seen change
over the years. While I do believe that makin' the ceremony personal is a very good thing, I hate
that as a society we are much more casual but I don't believe that wedding vows are the place for a
casual attitude.
I deal with brides on a daily basis and I can tell when I work with them which ones are about the
marriage and which are about the wedding.
You may think 'Bridzilla' is just a TV show... in my life it's a job! LOL
OKAY, I'm off the soap box!

I was in the bridal biz working in a bridal shop as executive assistant and registered Bridal Consultant.
I'm sure the stuff I took a test over doesn't exist any longer
My days were of the long sleeves, high neck, lots and lots of Chantilly and Re-embroidered Alencon lace. And satin was only for winter weddings
No strapless dresses like almost every bride wears now.

Girl, I've been doin' this so long I've seen it all!
Now, I can hardly buy a dress to put in the shop with straps and findin' one with sleeves is just impossible.
I end up doin' alot of custom alterations and additions for those brides that need to be modest.
And as far as lace goes... it's makin' a come back! but not like we used to see it.

I had that phrase in my vows 16 years ago. Maybe someone SHOULD have taken advantage of the opportunity. I would have saved me paying for the divorce ![battingeyes [smilie=battingeyes.gif]](./images/smilies/battingeyes.gif)

I honestly don't even remember if it was included in ours. That was 32 yrs ago, heck I can barely remember yesterday.

Maybe it's because the two people getting married do not care what any naysayer thinks ![noeyedear-shrugging [smilie=noeyedear-shrugging.gif]](./images/smilies/noeyedear-shrugging.gif)
I've never heard it, not at my wedding either as far as I recall but then again I was in a daze the whole time just waiting for the honeymoon to start.

I'm not sure if it was used in the last wedding Don performed or not. These days they usually write their vows.

I can't remember if it was in mine. For as casual as my wedding was, our vows were from the Book of Common Prayer with only a few minor adjustments to modernize the language a bit.
