Parrotheads.. are you a "foodie"?

Parrotheads.. are you a "foodie"?
I was explaining to a family member that besides the music
the Parrotheads seem to share the love of food, trying new foods
pride in our Regional foods and just the fact that we all seem to like to
eat. AND that a lot of us can cook
She did not understand how the jump from Music to Food works.
I told her neither do I but it just seems to be our "other" bond
SO am I right??
most of our "who's going" threads have a lot of info on where to eat
in the area as well as lists of what will be served at our Tailgates..
are you??

My husband is still amazed that when I give directions it's always based on food (turn by the Burger King, etc.). And all my friends do the same!
After all, we all seem to enjoy our "Cheeseburger in Paradise"!

Re: Parrotheads.. are you a "foodie"?
i'm gonna limit my comment to BN'ers but i'm sure this applies to some non-BN'er parrotheads too...
the majority of BNers like to travel to shows far and wide (not true of a lot of PHC members), even though some of us may get a local or sorta local show. and people that travel for the sake of seeing new places (as opposed to those that just travel to play golf, go to a spa or casino, etc) tend to like to get the full experience and try new, different and/or local foods. when i am planning a trip (out of town or out of state) one of the first things that i do is research where and what i can eat there that i can't eat at home. for me, that's one of the best parts of traveling

I am a fan of food....I love cooking, I love baking, I love barbecuing, I love it all.
I love tasting, I love trying new places......
I could ditch just about every channel *except* the cooking shows.

Here's a decent description.springparrot wrote:Not exactly sure what a 'foodie' is?
Although the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, foodies differ from gourmets in that gourmets are epicures of refined taste who may or may not be professionals in the food industry, whereas foodies are amateurs who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and news. Gourmets simply want to eat the best food, whereas foodies want to learn everything about food, both the best and the ordinary, and about the science, industry, and personalities surrounding food.

Re: Parrotheads.. are you a "foodie"?
BAsed on this description I am not a true "foodie" so I guess that means I am a boobie (not that there is anything wrong with that...). I love to eat and will try almost anything. I'm probably the least fussy eater I know. But I can't boil water and what's more I don't want to learn. But I excel at praising the cook!springparrot wrote:Nope, not a foodieSMLCHNG wrote:Here's a decent description.springparrot wrote:Not exactly sure what a 'foodie' is?

I'm just the opposite - I'm somewhat picky (whimpy stomach
), but I LOVE to cook and bake.

ya don't have to cook to be a Foodie.. just like food.
be at home with the food from Key West (conch key lime) , Texas (Brisket,Koleches Tex Mex) , the south (BBQ,Grits.. Ham) , the Mid West(German food,Fried everything some BBQ) , the West (Cali style,Thai,Viet,Chinese,
Basque, Mexican) the east (Italian,Bagels) find something from Everywhere that you like and miss, when you haven't had in a while,
plan a trip by where you are going to eat..

Nope, still not a foodie.
Because of an onion allergy, I have to be careful on what I order out.
Even ordering NO ONIONS, most the time, I still get them....one bite and I'm sick.
So, I stick to pretty bland, ordinary foods when we travel.
there are many times I have trouble finding something to order....
I can be more brave at home when I know how something is prepared, but traveling and/or eating out is more challenging.

We love the lyrics of a great poet.

We love the sensual locations. (sight)
We love to drink. (taste)
We LOVE BOOBIES!!!!!

Yes we are definitely foodies. Are totally into the travel to new places just to have the experience. A big part of that for us is FOOD!! We also watch the cooking shows and go out of our way to find new recipes to make.

I don't think being a parrothead has much to do with what I like foodwise. Maybe beerwise though. I likes the food and always have
